The Wrens – Ex-Girl Collection Lyrics 16 years ago
I'm pretty sure the last bit is

"Anne's so smart/ You couldn't even guess Beth's part
She said 'Beth must find you daring'
I'm way past caring"

with him presumably addressing Britt?

Will Sheff sings "daring" on his cover of it on the split single. And it rhymes with caring. So... probably it?

Okkervil River – You Can't Hold The Hand Of A Rock And Roll Man Lyrics 18 years ago
The title is from a lyric in Joni Mitchell's "The Blond in the Bleachers"- Okkervil River covered it in the Golden Opportunities mixtape, so I figure it's intentional.

Radiohead – Fitter Happier Lyrics 18 years ago
I strongly disagree that the point of the song is that "perfection" (according to current social standards and shiz- which fits well with the magazine clipping idea, but anyway) is impossible to achieve.

It's about the dehumanizing effect achieving a perfect, healthy, mechanical lifestyle has. Almost all the lyrics (other than the obvious "a pig on antibiotics"- esque stuff) describe things we're supposed to find admirable or strive towards. The "cat driven into winter shit" parts, the background music, and using Fred as the voice are basically all that stops us from approving of what Yorke is writing.

It's very Brave New World- What should be perfect is portrayed as a kind of emotionless dystopia instead. It's saying that if perfection WERE achieved, we'd basically become soulless and be screwed over. And maybe implying that this is already the case.

Brilliant song. A tad pretentious, but I like it.

The Mendoza Line – Morbid Craving Lyrics 18 years ago
*whistles*

Man, that was way off.

In my defence, though, I got the track as part of a compilation from Low Transit Industries- sans lyrics. Brilliant track- I'm definitely planning on tracking down some more Mendoza line stuff. Thanks for the actual lyrics- they're rather more with the sense making.

Sunset Rubdown – Us Ones in Between Lyrics 18 years ago
I adore this song.

Interestingly, when they sing it live, there's another verse over the piano coda thing-
"He don't knoweth she's got the wedding rings on,
She don't knoweth he's got the wedding ring on."

The Mendoza Line – Morbid Craving Lyrics 18 years ago
I couldn't find any lyrics for this online, so I tried to to transcribe it myself- it was surprisingly difficult. I'm fairly sure the first line of the 4th verse nor the part of the song which goes "the way he talks his (?)" are incorrect. Still, amazing song and catchy as hell.

I'm thinking it's probably a standard, bitter love song about a girl who's left the guy in question? I can't say I really know.

Wolf Parade – I'll Believe in Anything Lyrics 18 years ago
It feels to me (though probably because of the time during my life when I discovered this song) that it's about being deeply in love with a girl [I could take away the salt from your eyes, etc], and being with the girl, but not being able to get truly close and always taking second priority in her life and the girl generally not having time for the singer.

[I'd take you where nobody knows you and nobody gives a damn either way, about your blood, your bones, your voice, and your ghost] - and all of these things (blood, bones, voice and ghost) are exactly what Krug earlier sings is what HE needs.

[Give me your eyes, I need sunshine, your blood, your bones, your voice, and your ghost]

But it's a struggle to take her away from all of this- hence, [If I could take the fire out from the wire], which brings to my mind trying to grasp some red hot wire thingy while your flesh sizzles. Or possibly just taking the fire and passions out of her life.

I'm not sure if all of this is merely because it's what I want it to mean, though, because it's more relevant to me than a simple, happy love song.

I could have sworn it was "I heard that you can kill kings"...

Modest Mouse – 3rd Planet Lyrics 18 years ago
Despite the fact that this is nowhere near as in- depth as any of the other reviews, the impression I had before reading any of the other comments is pretty much as follows:

It seems to be about a guy despairing over the death of a son or daughter, looking for comfort but not really finding any- hence allusions to religion with "The third planet is sure that they're being watched." It feels like it skips around periods of time surrounding the death of this young child- the conception ("Your heart felt good, outside naked, shivering looking blue") a sense of wonderment at the child inside his lover (the references to another ocean on the planet and the pure, epic, unknowable scope of it all- similar to just how incomprehensible the size and dimensions of the universe are) before ending back with the despair and hopelessness and generally falling apart.
