Taking Back Sunday – Little Devotional Lyrics 19 years ago
"You know you were always such a lady"

Check out the past tense verses the present tense in the rest of the song. I think that the girl was the one who chose to do it with the speaker of this song, whomever he may be. The speaker's surprised that she wanted to have sex with him, but being a gentleman, he doesn't ask any questions. He just pays attention to what she wants.

"I said I'm gonna have myself in shambles,
before your folks are up and lookin' for some answers"

If he weren't guilty, I don't think he'd be in shambles.

"I calm the crowd by keeping quiet"

The crowd represents other people they know. By not telling anyone about their situation, the speaker keeps the crowd calm, therefore showing that if others knew about what they did, the crowd would be outraged.

"I move like a shadow up to your mattress."

He has to sneak over to her place.

"I have to say I'm more partial to the red
Deep, dark, and devastating,
leavin' no question as to where you've been"

Mm. Red - sort of like the scarlet letter? He affects the red more than the blue, so he's the one she's cheating with - not on. The red leaves no question as to where she's been because he knows that it was with him.

Mm. So, yup. ;p
