The Goo Goo Dolls – So Far Away Lyrics 18 years ago
This is my favourite song on 'Superstar Carwash'

I love the way Robby and Johnny collaborate and both sing songs on this album.
When Robby comes in with "something i don't know" - *sigh*. That's just the best thing ever.

The lyrics "if you break enough glass and there's no one to hear with your heart full of hate and your minf full of fear" mean a lot to me.
I think this song has a lot to do with harbouring feelings of anger and helplessness at the same time.

The Goo Goo Dolls – Smash Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song is about an abusive relationship. The first part is him trying to help his friend.
He can see she's unhappy, constantly 'pickin' at herself & 'torturin' herself. And is trying to get her to open up to him "say, say what you're thinkin. Don't carry round that pain."

The 'i love... i love when things work out' bit is meant to be ironic i think. He's tryining to help her but she's either unable or refuses to see the situation for what it is.

The last part "and i see it from another place right now, i'm coming home before i hit the ground" - sounds like he's imitating the point of view of the person in the abusive relationship.
They're finally realising their situation and going home/seeking help before something worse happens and they "hit the ground".

Then the very last part "Smash... and i feel it" is them finally allowing themself to feel or comprehend the abuse they've been subjected to without denying it or coveringn it up (as they do at the start... "but now you're smilin, holdin back those tears).

Dunno... that's just my take on it, the music is actually really happy and it wasn't until i properly listened to the lyrics that i realised it might be about something as dark as physical abuse, though from the title it would seem pretty obvious.

Motion City Soundtrack – Red Dress Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song is about an affair...
'saving our secret for the weekends'
'motel walls and in disguise, telephone calls we don't reply' (- he won't answer the phone in front of his real girlfriend.)
the girl in the red dress is his 'bit on the side' who he sees as nothing more than a sex object, but she gets too clingy and asks to move in with him - 'and ask if i'll move out west with you' so he backs off realising he's 'in too deep' - and says 'i'll see you around'... the classic line to let someone know it's finished.

Motion City Soundtrack – Better Open The Door Lyrics 18 years ago
I think 'Matt makes his murderous demand, foeign films, i take a stand and it's all up hill from here - at least i hope so' is a reference to porn... the foreign films being porn films, and the 'uphill' part being too crude for me to spell out on here without someone reporting it as abuse =P

Schuyler Fisk – From Where I'm Standing Lyrics 18 years ago
I think potterhead's right... i think she's singing about a boy who's just ended a relationship and is feeling pessimistic about love - "your head is hanging, trying to beat those goodbye blues"
"I bet you'll be fine" is her reassuring him that he'll get over the sadness he's feeling from his breakup.

"You're looking so lonely and i can't stop looking at you" - this is the classic situation whereby a girl is attracted to a lonely/heartbroken guy and just wants to 'fix' him and make him feel better... maybe it's got something to do with the whole 'nurturing maternal instinct' or whatever... but i definitely think that's what this song is about.

I'm not sure what 'i guess it's not the way you always planned it' means, maybe it's her saying that she knows things don't always work out.
'looks like you're heading for a crash landing' - she knows this guy's broken hearted and maybe feeling a little self destructive... but 'i bet you'll be fine' is her hint that she'll take care of him/wants to be with him??? I'm not sure - that's just what it means to me.

Schuyler Fisk – Who Am I To You Lyrics 18 years ago
I absolutely love this song, it seems pretty obvious to me what it is about... or at least, what it seems to be about. She's in/has been in a relationship with someone who she feels doesn't really care about her... she's not his everything and she's asking him what is she then? Trying to clarify her relationship with him in her own mind perhaps.

The simplicity of the lyrics is really refreshing, i think maybe she's kept it simple for a reason, like... maybe she wrote the song specifically FOR someone, or to try and work out her own feelings or something. I don't know... it just really stands out to me how honest it sounds.

I love her voice aswell. It's amazing... and the music really suits the lyrics, i think it sounds sort of 'floaty', 'drifty'... 'whispy even =P
Like she's diving into her thoughts to try and work out her own and/or someone else's feelings, but because they're feelings, they're elusive (hence the 'whispiness' =p) I know that probably sounds a bit ropey, but they're just my thoughts on the song =)

The lyrics in this song are just beautiful... "and i just want to make it go away" is enough to melt any girls heart, even one who hasn't been weakened by loneliness =P

Cary Brothers – Honestly Lyrics 18 years ago
I absolutey love this song, it completely sums up that post-relationship feeling... 'I wished your love away' - he wanted the relationship to end because he was unhappy. 'Lookin for some hope' - but part of him is still in love and wants her back.

I really like the lines 'Honestly over you... one lie short of true' - he's not over her at all, but no one wants to admit that to an ex (or to themself sometimes). Like ReginkaLovesToJam said - it does sound wistful, and sounds like he wants the girl back... especially since it ends on 'i wished your love away' - that to me, sounds like he's blaming himself.

This song is the soundtrack to the end of my last relationship - i love love love it =) Cary Brothers' voice is amazing.

Cary Brothers – Wasted one Lyrics 18 years ago
For me, he's talking about a relationship with this girl who he's too afraid to let himself love -
"And this old map says that love is where we're going"... he knows that he's falling, or is supposed to be falling in love with her. "But my tattered memories tell me i should be going now" - a past experience may have affected him in some way so he won't let himself. 'The wasted one' could therefore be referring to him, because he feels her love is wasted on him - or, it could be her... because he had a good thing going on and wasted it by not responding to her love. That's just my own interpretation of the song, but i'm not sure it's valid though. For instance, i don't see how 'we can justify a better way' fits in with my idea, unless he's telling her that they can still be friends even if he can't love her. That might fit in with 'you know i'm with you' aswell because it implies he does care for her. I can also relate... it's a great song.
