Dance Gavin Dance – Strawberry Swisher Pt 1 Lyrics 16 years ago
I don't see why everyone is hating on this song so much.
Sure, the lyrics might not be epic or have some deeper meaning or connection to something,
but it's still a good song. It's catchy, and it's easy to sing along to.
Seriously, think about how many famous songs there are that have ridiculously simple lyrics.

From what I understand, this song is about a one night stand. The guy turns out to
actually like the girl and doesn't want it to be just a one night stand, hence him wanting her to stay with him. "so let's explore each others minds" and "Oh girl, I wouldn't waste your time" are evidence of this. "I took the plum right from the vine" might mean he thinks he really scored a good girl.

Just my take on it.

The Spill Canvas – Lullaby Lyrics 16 years ago
Most definitely about being with a girl he loves, who's perfect in his eyes.
He'd do anything for her.

"Plant my lips where your necklaces close."

Referring to kissing her on the nape or back of her neck.

"It's those pills that you don't need to take,
Medicating perfection, now that's a mistake."

May not necessarily mean pills, but could be things she does in vain like putting on more than enough make-up, dressing to impress, doing things that aren't necessary to attracting the writer to her. The line "Medicating perfection" shows that this girl is perfect in his eyes, so there's no need for any of the extras.

The Fall of Troy – The Hol[ ]y Tape... Lyrics 17 years ago
For the people who don't understand the references to the book House of Leaves, here it is:

"You Got a Deathwish Johnny Truant?" is a quote from the book where in a footnote, one of the characters warns Johnny that the guy he's almost about to fight would probably kill him.

The Hol[ ]y Tape is a reference to a part in the book where some video tapes are being talked about, the one of significance in that part of the book the character Holloway's Tape. Parts are written to be "missing" so to fill the gap, [ ]'s are put in the space.

For the lyrics:
"None of this has changed, we are both the same"
In the book, Holloway and his team ventures down the gigantic staircase "inside" the house and is trying to find literally anything. In this area of the house that has basically broken laws of physics, everything is a matte black. The team are using high-powered flashlights to get places. This line may be a reference to what Holloway is thinking, that he, nor the surroundings haven't changed.

(I don't see correspondence in the lines I'm skipping.)

Your colour, I wonder...
Could be referencing the thought of what the black walls are and if they have any significance other than the lack of light.

The more trouble that we get in,
The more fun if we don't get caught up in it.

May be a reference to Holloway wanting to venture into the maze of black halls and rooms, seeing it as fun and maybe a chance to make history.

Help me find out, if this is all predictable.
Or is your troubled fate, relentless in its ways, destroying all your days?

This could be easily referencing the maze structure of their surroundings, and if it predictable where they're going. For the next part, maybe suggesting they're thinking from the maze's POV. Seeing how they think there may be a monster down in the maze somewhere, and how the maze seemingly reacts to Tom, another character, this could be true. Destroying all your days may be a reference to them wasting their days down there, or the "monster" dying.

(Self-taught Suicide!)
Maybe be a reference in Holloway going nuts, especially near the end of the tape, going crazy to the point of death.

My take on it after reading the book.
One hell of a book by the way.

Protest the Hero – No Stars Over Bethlehem Lyrics 18 years ago
These songs (on this whole album) are about a girl named Kezia being executed. They're told from different acts, the first being the prison guard.
I forget what the 2nd is, but the last is Kezia herself, and the last song brings all of them together.

Easily my favorite song off this album.
I'm lost for the meaning, but I know that the song, lyrics and music, go together amazingly.

Alesana – Ambrosia Lyrics 18 years ago
Obviously the lyrics make a direct connection with King Midas and his run in with Silenus,
but also, if you watch the music video, there is no
show of gold, but a rose.
Maybe they mean for this song to relate to one of their lives?
The "gilded touch" may not mean gold, but
something else, that eventually spoils a relationship?

That's just my guess at it.

Also notice the song is called "Ambrosia", which was also one of the food and drink of the Gods in Greek Mythology?

Escape the Fate – Reverse This Curse Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm pretty sure it's about a guy being in love with some girl.

She loves someone else or has broken up with him.

He still loves her so much, but she won't love him back, so he sees this as a curse.

He can't think of any way to fix it, except suicide.
Maybe she ignores him, so in taking his own life, she'll be forced to notice him, for one last time.

The Academy Is... – We've Got a Big Mess on Our Hands Lyrics 18 years ago
Ooh, forgot a part.

"Inside a box, cut out the top to let some light shine in"

Cut out the top to let some light shine in translates to happiness, or relief from the life inside the box before he became a "social ghost".

No, William is not gay.
Although I'd go gay for him though xD
Not really.
No, but I do believe he has a girlfriend.

This song to me seems like he let himself think that he's no good, or messes what he's doing up, hence the first stanza..

I've got that lefty curse
Where everything I do is flipped and awkwardly reversed
You're seldom known and barely missed
I always put myself in destructive situations
I need oxygen to be exposed where no one goes
Where no one's been
When it all comes crashing...

He decides to take a breather from it all, shown in the end of the first stanza and the second stanza...

Somebody get my phone
So I can throw it in a public pool and watch it float
And as it's slowly sinking down, become a social ghost
Inside a box, cut out the top to let some light shine in
To remind me of what I've done and where I've been
When it all comes crashing...

He "Needs oxygen" so he goes off by himself or ignores others for a while, show as he "drops his phone in the public pool".

He then realizes that without him, a lot of things would go wrong, and they do go wrong. "When it all comes crashing down" and "We've got a big big mess on our hands" shows that.

I'm not so sure of my thinking on the last part, but it sorta seems like even after seeing what things have happened in his "absence" he's telling those who he was with to "Don't give in, don't give up" because "I'll be gone".

That's just my take on the song or so. A bunch of it connects with what justgottakill quoted from the interveiw with William.

Motion City Soundtrack – Resolution Lyrics 18 years ago
To me, this song seems like it's about a guy who has a girlfriend that he's not quite in love with anymore.

"I like the the universe
But she messes with my words..."

Because he doesn't love her anymore, he starts to cheat on her...

"A taste test of girls from all over the world
who refuse to accept my excuses..."

None of his affairs seem to work
and he begins to look to drugs and alcohol for a solution....

"Liquids, powders, and pills,
Not quite taken against my will..."

His girlfriend realizes that he's cheating and doing drugs/alcohol and tries to help him...

"She put up with so much,
All my madness and my self abuse.
She would tend to my wounds..."

He tries to tell her that he wasn't cheating but she already knows....

"I know what you're thinking; This probably sounds rehearsed.."
"She refuses to speak as I'm drifting asleep at the wheel..."

Then finally, she leaves him.

"She was right to take off before she was consumed..."

This is just my take on the song, which is one of my favorite songs off Commit To This Memory.

F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X.
Is just this song, but played faster!
If you read the tabs, theres a bunch more tremelo
picking rather than single ring + delay on a bunch
of notes.
Same song, different tempo.

The Fall of Troy – Ghostship Pt II Lyrics 18 years ago
Yes, it's obviously about the crew members eating each other.

After looking at this for quite a while, you can tell this is all from one crew members point of view, not 2. Like ^Debaser said, the place that they're in now is making them crazy (hence the demons in their minds). As the "demons" start to take over more, they grow more insane and start eating each other.

"Do you know this is your blood not mine?"

Studpendous song.
