| Modest Mouse – Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I don't usually read the lyrics to modest mouse songs because I assume the lyrics, so I was convinced that this song started with: Old news, Tied myself and tied myself to time. But anyway, I also thought that "cross-armed stance" was a reference to crucification, because without looking at the hyphen in between those words I didn't visualize a person standing with their arms crossed, I pictured a person with arms on a cross. Well I feel that the phrase "cross-armed" can be taken as arms that are crossed across your chest, or arms that are crossed as in put up against a cross. Anyways, the imagery then becomes one of a person who should be at a center of attention (since they are being crucified) but is still unsatisfied with the amount of attention they are(n't) getting, even though they've gone as so far as to get themselves killed for it. I think that resonates with the theme of the song even if it might be by accident that those lyrics sound that way. |

| Modest Mouse – Exit Does Not Exist Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
The basic message of this song is: You can't escape yourself [and your past]. We all have moments when we look at an old photograph and realize the disconnection between the person you are now and the person you were in the past (especially since we are always changing on a cellular level enough so that the organism you were 7 years ago was made up of completely different chemicals). So what connects those two different bodies are our left brains which form the memories and controls how we think of the past and of the future; the responsibilities/consciences that are associated with those memories are something you cannot escape from. *Hence there is no exiting the consciousness of who you are and what you've done etc. etc. |

"My mother's crying blood dust now" I always thought he was saying "My mother's finally left us now" which made more sense. But now all this! huh. |

| Modest Mouse – Dog Paddle Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| You're laughable! Not everything is about drugs "relapser". The interpretation that this song is simply about coping with life through drugs is about as superficial as something that might run through a 13 year old from Geneva, NY. Words are never just words. | |

| omg can people stop ranting. no one cares how long you've been listening to this band. Half of these comments arent even about the song itself! | |
| Modest Mouse – Tiny Cities Made of Ashes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Molasses: "And as we're headed down the road towards tiny cities made of ashes I'm gonna lay down in the spa where they coat you in molasses. Oh no!" = As we inevitably head towards this gloomy future, human beings decide to look the other way and instead indulge in the sugary sweetness of ignoring things with the help of a superficial media. |

And, re: i'm surprised no one commented on the day it came out, i think most people has had the album via leakage for a month is the reason. |

"Well, you told me about nowhere well it sounds like someplace I'd like to go-oh-oh.. Now here we go!" = Nowhere we go Isn't that awesome? Irfan insists that it is a coincidence; I think it's intentional. But more importantly, aren't I cool for noticing this. |
