| The Vaccines – Wetsuit Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I think the wetsuit should be taken literally - go to the beach, put a wetsuit on, go surfing, grow long hair, wear t-shirts. Basically just do stuff for fun and freedom while you can; surfing is surely one of the free-est ways to do that. So go on then - get a wetsuit and hit the beach! |

| U2 – Desire Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Very straightforward song, three verses describing three different people's experience of Desire - 1st Verse is about a musician who's gonna try and hit the big time - 'Love I'm off the streets...red guitar on fire etc... 2nd Verse is about a junkie, 'candle, needle spoon', and his Desire driving him to rob places 'over the counter with a shotgun' 3rd Verse is about an electoral candidate 'she's my dollars, my protection ($ are his protection)' and then he likens his electoral campaign to that of a preach stealing hears for 'love or money'. In the 2nd and 3rd Verse, Desire is described as a female thing 'when I'm beside her' and 'she's my dollars', probably sounds better than saying 'when I'm beside it' The chorus and bridge link the verses together - 'And the fever getting higher' There we are, pretty straightforward stuff, three different verses, three perspectives. |

| Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Southern Cross Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| avalon is actually a port in chile which is the start of the long sailing reach to papate, which is a city in tahiti. it's a 2,500 mile reach, the longest in the world. sounds like he tried to call her from there, before heading off. on the midnight watch (you'd have a few of them on a 2,500 mile reach!) he figured some stuff out | |
| The Rolling Stones – Can't You Hear Me Knocking Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| this song is the stones view of the shakespear play, romeo and juliet. jagger and richards were a couple of middle class kids who attended university so this sort of thing would be well within their grasp. | |
| The Stone Roses – I Am The Resurrection Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
yus an up yours to an ex. he has been hurt by her - and she has come back, tail between legs, cap in hand...but it's too late..."don't waste your words i don't want anything from you" goes the hook not wanting to see an ex's face anymore...needing to be alone, to essentially grieve "your tongue is far too long" snake like? also - the way people can suck their teeth, tut, jam their tongue in their cheek etc...when someone else is trying to tell them something most of the song is pretty obvious "i am the resurection and i am the life..." he's getting over it, getting back up. when all is said and done, he bears no ill towards her...he has learnt better than that re: the drug connotations; i don't know ian brown personally but would be AMAZED if he ever had a problem with herion. john squire as the weak link...because he wasn't thought of as a smackhead? please don't be so insulting, and grow up! (john squire was also the atistic influence on the band, and the guitar virtuoso who merged indie with beats on fools gold) these guys didn't grow up in a warzone...yeah they were tough, but it weren't no bosnia |

bubba jank - i like your comment at the end that songwriters/musicians ought to find a litte more in this song...i am neither, but have my own boat which i retreat onto when necessary. you can lose yourself on a boat as you can lose yourself in music. the first verse for me is very evocative of perfect sailing conditions beautiful indeed |

| Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Southern Cross Lyrics | 18 years ago |

this song was written by two brothers - whom i cannot recall the name of. there is a love lost theme in there, but i dont think he gets the girl. i think the nautical theme is also quite literal for the songwriter, there is so much refference to it the first verse describes the fact that the ship has 80ft of waterline, i cant figure out any relevance other than the literal. then the stuff making for the trades etc...he is describing sailing around polynesia in the south pacific i think he realizes that she's not coming back (during a midnight watch) and accepts all his got is his boat - the music. with all her flags flying, and 80ft of waterline, she would be quite a ship - maybe something enough to cling to in the face of a lost love the woman will survive being bested - he wont find another better - until someone else comes along, who can make him forget about the southern cross, and her. but - he can never forget the southern cross, and sadly not her either i could be way off here - but the boat thing is strong for me |

| Porno For Pyros – Bali Eyes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
i've always loved this song and listened to it a lot before i went to bali. out there mushroom shakes can be bought...the balinese are a very sociable nation, and they do ask who you are, where you are from etc...and will spot you the next time they see you. granted they ususally have something to sell, but very friendly and charming with it re: doors knocking - can only imagine he's staying at a place with a few other people and wants a quick root off his missus before he gets woken up to go for an early morning surf? there always seems to be lots of people - tourists and locals in bali eyes are god - in a glass full of jelly - dunno. is he saying they have beautifull kindness in their eyes? maybe the mushroom was taking effect then fantastic song - the stipped down accoustic feel and gentle wailing at the beginning too reminds me of balinese musicians |

| Jane's Addiction – Ocean Size Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i've always thought this was literally wanting to be as strong as the ocean. perry was from california and he would have seen some incredible swells there - tides rolling in and out which, even though we can build the odd harbour, we can't begin to try and stop/move. a large ocean swell is a massive 'thing' that doesn't answer or explain itself to anyone. the ocean is all action - it's the mightiest thing on our planet - what else does it need to say? | |
