This song was written in 1933 By two Hungarians: Rezo Seress and Laszlo Javor. The song supposedly drew little attention until 1936, when it began to be connected with a rash of suicides in Hungary and was allegedly banned there. American musicians and singers soon jumped at the chance to record insturmental and translated versions of the "Hungarian Suicide Song" and by the end of 1936, Several recordings were available to American audiences.
The Billie Holiday version was recorded several years later, was probably the most popular English-Lanuage version of "Gloomy Sunday."

i always use to love this song..and when i just started dating my ex..whom just broke my heart,anyway..he was driving me home and i was messin with the radio..and he doesnt like any music but metal and country..which is kool cause i purdy much like everything but rap...well...i put it on one station and the song sounded familiar so i left it there....he let me keep it there,and i was subconciously thinking of him..i was in love,still am..but..about 3 months later things turn out crappy 4 him out here in california..and i tried to b there as much as i could..so he made the decision to move back to illinois..he left and evn tho it was hard 4 him..he made it feel worse 4 me and is trying to 4get...he gave up on me. this song says exacty who i feel and how i will continue to feel...he was my 1st reall love and theyre the hardest...o well..at least i know i was true to myself... |

I AM SOOOOO SICK of reading through the posts saying this album sux..ILL TELL U WHAT..as a writter and a sinnger..this album is the best. Its deeper..darker..the vocals are astounding. some notes r a little difficult but it takes a lot of practice..they did a beautiful job..And if u guys were TRUE evanesence fans youd love everything theyd bring to the table...I love everything..from orgin..to their cover songs...to now...They r in no way industrial...its truth through amys eyes written on paper..and the bands through the way they present it...GET A GRIP AND AN OPEN MIND PPL please!!!!! |
