| Did you guys used to be closer than you are now? Jump the gun! If it's a close friend, there's no one better to get help from with the interpretation. | |

I cannot stop watching WTM's 7in7 video for this. I just want to grab Nick out of it and talk to him about the song and what it means to him, exactly. Iscariot strikes so many chords with me. I think, simply, it's about betrayal. I think it's about being there for someone almost unconditionally.. then it becomes too much.. and that person (the betrayer) gets what has been coming to them. I could be way off.. either way, I love, love this song. |

| This song hit me a few different ways but this was one of them. I'm in a similar situation with my older sister. I cried when I read your post. Thanks for sharing. | |

Because the video has to be linked directly to the lyrical meaning, right? No. The directors of the video came up with their own idea. It's a wonderful video but it didn't translate the lyrics for the song. |

I am so, so in love with this song. I can't even tell you how long I've had it on repeat. My interpretation has changed a bajillion times. It is so beautiful. The video is just as pretty. Amazing. I love one of the comments here that talks about how it makes you smile and cry. It does exactly that. I feel like it is about a woman left behind in a home she used to share with the man she loves. She is so heartbroken it hurts. I think she's even to the point of suicide. She is losing her mind. It's almost like the song starts off with her gently and calmy trying to tell his ghost *why* she is going to kill herself. She hasn't told him that its her plan but he has sensed it. He's trying to shoot down every reason she has. It's like she starts off with the reasons she can handle best first and works her way to the ones that are stealing her sanity. The tension grows as she does. The man knows he's losing the argument. Some days I can't even dress myself! He's telling her he knows and he's so sorry.. it kills him to see her like this but she has to tough it out. Maybe the chorus is showing the sameness on both sides of the argument. They both think the truth may vary.. that what waits for us after life isn't certain. But, he thinks if she kills herself she won't get to join him. She thinks she will. There's an old voice that's holding her back from killing herself. It's the sane side of her. He's saying he wants that side to pull through. Soon it will be over, she says. Just quit fighting me. It is what it is. He mentions what they used to do.. trying to focus on the good in life.. good times they had. She doesn't know if her decision is right.. but she has made up her mind. He's trying to convince her that she's not thinking straight. This is a bit far stretched.. but when he is saying "don't listen to a word I say.. the screams all sound the same" I feel like she knows it's hard for him to stay with her in the house as a ghost. He's doing it for her. Maybe he has told her before there are other ghosts there that scream and frighten him. He's trying to tell her it's okay.. he doesn't mind.. even though he does. They sing in unison. She really did watch him go and die. He is watching her now.. who he knew her to be.. disappear because she is giving up. He knows her to be a fighter but now she is throwing in the towel. She's saying let me go, we'll meet again soon. Once she kills herself, she will be with him. He's saying let me go and live your life.. when it comes to an end on its own, we'll be together. I love how much you can feel and hear the desperation in his voice when he says now, wait, wait, wait for me but you can barely hear her. He's still fighting to convince her but she's not convinced. Hearing and seeing all the different thoughts this has triggered is wonderful. I would love to hear Of Monsters and Men talk about it. |

my bad.. just wanted to see if the html code for italics works here lol sooo.. You made yourself a bed at the bottom of the blackest hole (Blackest hole) And convinced yourself that it's not the reason You don't see the sun anymore I think it is about addiction. I think it is someone close to her that she has watched fall from grace. The person seems oblivious to the fact that his/her own actions has gotten them where they are. "You made your bed, now sleep in it" (I also think the more you feel a song and can relate to it.. the more you grasp onto your opinion of the meaning.) You can take your time Take my time This is so powerful to me.. because even though she is so pissed at this person for letting themselves go down this road, she doesn't want to lose them.. she wants them to get better. Take your time.. take my time. |

This is a wonderful song. To me, it is about a girl's broken heart from unrequited love. I don't think they even got as far as an alter. I think for her.. since day one.. she heard wedding bells but she was never anything to him. I *love* how the chorus comes in each time. Like.. she just feels shot down after each verse.. while reminiscing about how they rode on horses made of sticks (probably the only real memory they shared).. it hurts to even recall.. so she tells you bang, bang i was shot down.. and later in life when she wanted him to be her's and he would just call back on the days when they played (and that's all it was). I love it. |

I joined this site just to comment this song. I came here in hopes to find someone explaining the song how I portray it. I guess part of the beauty of music is the diversity in understandings. I definitely applied this to abortion. I don't know enough background information to support my theory, I guess.. but even the video how the girl's father hardly acknowledges Shaun.. how the young girl keeps disappearing.. like that could be his child had she not been aborted. |
