I think you people are too easily distracted by certain lyrics in the song and have become confused. Most of you are over-analyzing, reading too much into the lyrics, and can't see the forest for the trees. the song is quite obviously about when dogs rule the world. they will dip their tails in ink made from our blood and write "happy meal" on our heads (just for fun). Dogs know that cats love to watch dots, and love laser pointers; so they plan to use laser pointers to distract cats and humans so they can more easily take over the world. Once they own the world they will make it rain bones, so all dogs can have a bone. In fact, the bones will breed little bone clones. That's why the song wants you to trust your dog. And god... obviously just a metaphor for dog (dog is god spelled backwards) |

| Liv Kristine – Fake a Smile Lyrics | 18 years ago |

reading a bit into it, and taking a Weberian angle of analysis... sounds almost like a lament of the over-rationalization of our world -- shake their hands but they don't speak only demanding the right numbers (rationalization) of me, breaking into pieces (rationalization breaks and reifies everything into pieces) it's so cold around me I hurry to the next stop My world is turning too fast She hides the burden she feels from the steel shell of rationality by "Faking a Smile". In reality she wonders when will it all break -- when will I break when does the ice break when will I dare to press rewind and start all over? but 'breaking' is irrational. all she can do is Fake a Smile. well that's my two cents. Thematically it fits with her N. European heritage though too. |

| Sirenia – Lithium And A Lover Lyrics | 18 years ago |

weatherlight has it nailed on the drug lithium. i think, though, that the reason it is used in the title, along with the word lover, is simply for the alliteration effect. 'lithium and a lover' sounds a lot better than... 'lexapro and an AA meeting' |

| Iron & Wine – Jezebel Lyrics | 18 years ago |

To the extent that the figure of Jezebel exists in contemperary western culture, she is usually refered to simply as a whore who is torn to shreds by dogs. This then becomes just an illustration of what happens to promiscuous women. The rest of the details of the story have become generally smoothed over as it exists as a symbol in our culture. I think the song targets this western symbol of Jezebel rather than the pure biblical figure. The lyrics then look upon her in a purer way than the symbolic illustration does. The lyrics see her as another women, perhaps to be loved. While the symbolic illustration sees her as just another whore. The dogs fit into this model in that in the western symbolic illustration itself, focusing on the whore - dog aspects of the story, may have the dogs symbolized as the whores many lovers and/or sub-society in general. This part of society and people from it may often abuse Jezebel, but they still accept her for who she is; rather then dismiss her as another whore and sub-member of society. The other references of the song, such as "the woman we could blame" fit this also. Many people may blame whores or promiscuous women for a certain problem or an overarching problem in society. These women may serve as scapegoats, victims of a partiarchal or religously zealous society. The song's narrarator does not see this though but sees only a women he loves. Perhaps as Jesus would. |
