I REALLY like this song. well in one way he could be talking about his morals. and his way of life. for instance "beleive every able soul should work" and how he is who he is and you cant change his look on life, im completely agree with him too. and in another he could be talking in jesus's perspective, "And I believe that Jesus looks down here and sees us, and if youask him he would say (chorus) I'm a man of my convictions.
