| Opeth – The Grand Conjuration Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think the theme/story of this album is pretty obviously about some guy who is either a sort of Antichrist or tied to the devil in some way, trying to escape from his fate...Ghost of Perdition is sort of a prologue to the story and the baying of the Hounds introduces the main character and talks about how the devil is after him/haunting his thoughts. In Beneath the Mire he reluctantly gives in to the devil but he regrets his decision in Atonement ("suddenly I can't justify what I had become"). Harlequin Forest is about his attempt at running away from his commitment, and how Satan won't let him escape ("Baying behind me, I hear the hounds / flocks chasing to find me alone"). He eventually loses hopoe in the second half of the song, and then thinks over his options in Hours of Wealth, when he ultimately decides that he has no choice but to return to the devil's service. In The Grand Conjuration we see the narrator in a pathetic state, having given himself up totally to the devil's will. I think the most striking part is at the end of the song where he says "Say my name, ease the pain / clear the smoke in my head." In The Baying of the Hounds, it was torturous for the narrator to hear Satan calling to him but now he needs him to do so, like a physical addiction. The midsection of the song ("Whispered conjuration, a belief takes form...") is the narrator describing to the listener how the devil will take over the world, basically. Pretty dark stuff, lol. Isolation years is seperate fro mthe story, as Mikael has said. Note that I'm not insinuating that Akerfeldt is a satanist...he just wrote a story about the devil. I mean, J.K. Rowling obviously doesn't beleive Harry Potter is real. I just take the lyrics at face value and not as a promotion or condemnation of anything. |

| Crotchduster – Crotchopus Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is fucking great. | |
| Flobots – Handlebars Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"I can ride my bike with no handlebars No handlebars No handlebars I can ride my bike with no handlebars No handlebars No handlebars" I think this part is suposed to be both characters in the video "Look at me, look at me hands in the air like it's good to be ALIVE and I'm a famous rapper even when the paths're all crookedy I can show you how to do-si-do I can show you how to scratch a record I can take apart the remote control And I can almost put it back together I can tie a knot in a cherry stem I can tell you about Leif Ericson I know all the words to "De Colores" And "I'm Proud to be an American" Me and my friend saw a platypus Me and my friend made a comic book And guess how long it took I can do anything that I want cuz, look: I can keep rhythm with no metronome No metronome No metronome And I can see your face on the telephone On the telephone On the telephone" This part is the one that took the dove's path. He 's still all "Look at me, I'm great", but he's innocent with it. He really just talks about simple things. I think this is supposed to be a message to the friend he splits up at the begining. He sens him a video of himself to accompany the message. This carries us on to this. "Look at me Look at me Just called to say that it's good to be ALIVE In such a small world I'm all curled up with a book to read I can make money open up a thrift store I can make a living off a magazine I can design an engine sixty four Miles to the gallon of gasoline I can make new antibiotics I can make a computer survive aquatic conditions I know how to run a business And I can make you wanna buy a product Movers, shakers, and producers Me and my friends understand the future I see the strings that control the systems I can do anything with no assistance" Spoken by the one that took the corporate path. He is realizing all the money he can make, all the ways he can become famous, and loves it. He's on top of the world. "Cause I can lead a nation with a microphone With a microphone With a microphone And I can split the atoms of a molecule Of a molecule Of a molecule" He gets involved with politics. And for the the atom part, I think that's just another part saying "If you can do, that doesn't mean you should". "Look at me Look at me Driving and I won't stop And it feels so good to be Alive and on top My reach is global My tower secure My cause is noble My power is pure I can hand out a million vaccinations Or let'em all die from exasperation Have'em all healed from their lacerations Or have'em all killed by assassination I can make anybody go to prison Just because I don't like 'em And I can do anything with no permission I have it all under my command" He's in power, and is becoming extremley arrogant. He feels he can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants. And so he does. "Because I can guide a missile by satellite By satellite By satellite And I can hit a target through a telescope Through a telescope Through a telescope And I can end the planet in a holocaust In a holocaust In a holocaust In a holocaust In a holocaust In a holocaust" Th other man, his old friend, leads an uprising against him. The protesters, including his friend, are slaughtered by the millitary, and the politican starts to realize the horror he's unleashed, but not fully. "I can ride my bike with no handlebars No handlebars No handlebars I can ride my bike with no handlebars No handlebars No handlebars" I think it's just the politician, or maybe even the guy who took the dove path, having a flashback, and realizing how big of a difference one descision can really make. Most of this is really obvious, in my eyes, but I felt like I should comment anyway. |

| Death – Trapped In A Corner Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Not that hard to interperate. The person that the song is about is fake, shallow, and only cares about making themselves look better than everyone else. They are so concerned about this, they'll crush other people in the process, and in the end, they'll destroy themselves. awesome song. |

This song is epic, but the lyrics aren't that deep. It's about a Korean comic book amed "Priest". Here's some proof: http://faq.dtnorway.com/question/1098 (Probably already posted, but whatever) |

| Nevermore – The Seven Tongues of God Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Dane has written a select few songs through out Nevermore's history about his beliefs. Most christian metal bands' songs are soley about their beliefs, which is much more brainwashing than what Dane says, but Dane disagrees with you, and your thoughts, so he becomes a horrrible zealot. I don't see you flaming the Becoming the Archetype, or Antestor songs needlessly. |

| In Flames – Dead Eternity Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I really don't know what this song is about in the context of Th Jester Race, or if it even fits, seeing as it was written by Jocke Goteburg (temporary vocalist before Anders), but it is one of the best In Flames songs ever, and my personal favorite. | |
| Korpiklaani – Wooden Pints Lyrics | 18 years ago |

| Insomnium – The Day it All Came Down Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Scratch that, the entire song is rawpower. | |
| Insomnium – The Day it All Came Down Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song (and the entire album, to me) seems to be about someone whose mother died, and this death pulls the father and son apart (Just from looking at the other lyrics, especially "Closing Words" and "Disengagement" I love this song, it is raw power at 3:19. |

| Judas Priest – Painkiller Lyrics | 18 years ago |

^Hah, that's funny, because Death is from Flordia and Chuck Schuldiner is perfectly fluent in english. Anyway, this song kicks ass. The Death cover is great, the Angra cover is horrid, but neither compare to the original. |
