| Vampire Weekend – Oxford Comma Lyrics | 17 years ago |
HoppyChris: That's a good interpretation, but consider this: I have a lot of coal, 50 pounds and 100 beams of wood. I have a lot of coal, 50 pounds, and 100 beams of wood. Written with the Oxford Comma, the phrase "50 pounds" could be misconstrued as being in a parenthetical break. For clarification, that means it could alternatively be written like this: I have a lot of coal--50 pounds--and 100 beams of wood. This means you have 50 pounds of coal and 100 beams of wood. But without the Oxford Comma, you have 50 pounds (as in, English currency), 100 beams of wood, and an unspecified amount of coal. But, as you can probably tell from my last sentence, this doesn't mean I am not in favour of the Oxford Comma. I find that, more often than not, the Oxford Comma takes away ambiguity rather than creating it. But I'm just playing Devil's Advocate. |

I have no idea what this song means, can anyone help? LAWL. |
| Showbread – The Pig (Anorexia) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Spandorf is right, but as for the "discrepancy" theenjoisk8r found in the lyrics: Anorexia thinks she is doing good, but she is really doing bad. | |
| Roadside Monument – sperm ridden burden [aka 's.r.b.'] Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Apparently YOUR cycle is quite repetitive as well. | |
| Sufjan Stevens – A Winner Needs a Wand Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I thought that at the end, he said "Tries to RAKE you," as in a reference to "Rake" and "You Are the Rake." | |
| Sufjan Stevens – The Perpetual Self, or ''What Would Saul Alinsky Do?'' Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Saul Alinsky was a notable community organizer (community organizing is, according to Wikipedia, when "people are brought together to act in common self-interest.") and critic of passive liberalism. The novel "The Jungle," by Upton Sincaid, is about the horrible working conditions of the Union Stock Yards during Alinsky's organization of the Back of the Yards neighborhood, which is in one of the 77 official "community areas" of Chicago. | |
| Sufjan Stevens – Barn Owl, Night Killer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
What album is this on? And is it even real? Sorry, but I've become kind of skeptical about "unreleased" Sufjan tracks ever since the Oregon fiasco. |

| Sufjan Stevens – A Loverless Bed (Without Remission) Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I meant I'd, not Id. My bad. Spell check SUCKS! |

| Sufjan Stevens – A Loverless Bed (Without Remission) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm going to have to agree with quailbeast about the hairline thing. Id also like to say that the vocal effects in this song remind of Beck's earlier work. |
| Sufjan Stevens – Chicago (Adult Contemporary Easy Listening Version) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Can someone tell me how this song differs from the original Chicago? Because I just found a version of it with a lot of guitars and clapping, and I want to be sure if it's this version or the Multiple Personality Disorder version. |
| Alice Cooper – School's Out Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Um, Ramthar... "Shockingly honest?" "Beautiful?" You're reading Alice Cooper WAY too deeply. It's purely humor! He may not have been able to rhyme with "innocence," so he wrote that line instead. But it is neither shockingly honest nor beautiful. If you want shockingly honest, check out "Criminal" by Fiona Apple. If you want beautiful, check out "Motion Picture Soundtrack" by Radiohead. |

Everybody, I realize that you guys like this song, but... This is SongMEANINGS.net, not WHOA, THIS SONG IS, LIKE, TOTALLY AWESOME!11111.net, so posy what you think the songs means, not that it totally rocks. qabriella, that means you. Too bad Wal-Mart doesn't sell lives. |

| Aphex Twin – Milkman Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Jaggeh: The other band David Firth likes is Locust Toybox. I'm a fan of his work too. Men From up the Stairs is genius... =D | |
| Danielson – Did I Step On Your Trumpet? Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I saw a video of this song live. "How many of you have offended someone? ...Next time, instead of saying, 'Sorry, did I offend you?' say 'Sorry, did I step on your trumpet?'" I believe that describes the meaning well. "Then I just start blurting out the first thing on my mind." That too. |

| The Chariot – And Then, Came Then Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Childe, he's definitely saying the devil is in Atlanta, but that's the only thing I can understand in this song. Josh Scogin's lyrics are sheer brilliance. |

| The Chariot – The Deaf Policemen Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Giants roam/ horses stand so tall - Belittling someone (i.e. making yourself feel big)/Riding a high horse (i.e. Making yourself feel big) It's about selfish stuck-up pigs. |
| The Chariot – Back to Back Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| We both know WE'RE BOTH going to die. | |
| Sleepytime Gorilla Museum – Sleep Is Wrong Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I agree with the second idea of yours, nagman. I'm now listening to this song for the first time. I can barely find anything of theirs on Limewire, I only got this and A Hymn To The Morning Star. Great stuff. |
| Radiohead – Fitter Happier Lyrics | 18 years ago |
That would also describe the strange background voices. Somebody else here pointed out the transition from "baby smiling in the back seat" to "baby strapped in the backseat," and I think it's brilliant. |

There's lyrics according to the Unusual Scam! Just waiting for MykwithaY to send them in... |
| Mr. Bungle – Ma Meeshka Mow Skwoz Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I'm glad somebody got the Unusual Scam lyrics, I've been dying to see them. | |
| Mr. Bungle – The Bends Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The name for section 5 has always puzzled me, because I hear scuba gear and a piano, but no guitar. Maybe the lead character is the guitarist and he died underwater, and the scuba breathing is the guy rescuing him? | |
| Frank Zappa – Don't Eat The Yellow Snow Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think I have the version with "Nanook Rubs It" on it. That's the one with the story about the fur-trapper at the end, right? | |
| Mr. Bungle – None Of Them Knew They Were Robots Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Why would you search an artist, then go to a song, just to say you hate someone? This website is meant for people to tell what they think the song means, that's why it's songmeanings.net. | |
| Mr. Bungle – Ma Meeshka Mow Skwoz Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's like a theme song for a circus cartoon from Hell, basically. | |
| Fantômas – Delirium Cordia Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Actually, this song is about surgery without anesthesia. | |
| Fantômas – Rosemary's Baby Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Fucking creepy, man... Oh, and I thought that it was a Kate Chopin short story? Oh shit, nevermind, it was Desiree's Baby. Pardon my momentary lapse of intelligence. |
| Mr. Bungle – Stubb (a Dub) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The ads about how to potty train dogs on the side are cracking me up! | |
| Primus – The Chastising of Renegade Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Renegade... come here, boy. Scarier than Dan Akroyd. |
| Radiohead – Good Morning Mr. Magpie (Morning M'lord) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I would like to find this song! Anybody know where? I've also been trying to download Fitter Happier for about 2 hours and the motherfucker cancels at around 14% downloaded, which takes like 15 minutes anyway. Annoying! >XO |
| Radiohead – Ed's Scary Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Ed says in the song that "he put everything back in it's right place" and that he's "standing in the shadows at the end of my bed," both if which are homages to "everything In It's Right Place" and "Kid A," the first two tracks on the Kid A record. Just pointing that out... |
| Radiohead – Fitter Happier Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Does it begin with static? Cause I'm downloading it and the preview is just static. Just checking if that's bad. | |
| Primus – Mr. Knowitall Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Nobody's perferct alright! | |
| Primus – The Return Of Sathington Willoughby Lyrics | 18 years ago |
What are the last lines? Oh, and Heckler, I would say your name is very appropriate. There is NO fucking reason WHATSOEVER to deliberately open a song link just to post "I HATE THIS SONG!!!! EVERYONE THAT LIKES IT SUCKS!!!!!" and stupid shit like that. But I also say that it's stupid when people say "You're a stupid fag if you don't like this, bitch!" and other, equally stupid shit. But please, for the sake of this site, do not spam up songs like that. That's all. |
| Primus – Fisticuffs Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Kewl! And yes, Sir Squiggly, it is quite interest. |
| Richard Cheese – People Equal Shit Lyrics | 18 years ago |
'Tis true! I've been downloading a lot of this guy's shit recently, he's pretty funny. |
| Radiohead – 2 + 2 = 5 (The Lukewarm) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think, in continuation of the 1984 allusion, that the alternate title (The Lukewarm) refers to how everyone in that world was neither hot nor cold towards the government. There were not anarchistic activists nor government lovers, everybody just complied to what Big Brother told them to do. | |
| Primus – Hats Off Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I hate it when people post the same thing twice. And I haven't heard it, what album is it on? |
| Primus – Glass Sandwich Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's a bit deeper than that, y'allses. When he's saying "It's the nature of things," he saying what goes around comes around. Like maybe he broke up with her cause he loved some one else, or she broke up with him cause he was a cheater, and he went to a porno palace like he does every day, and his ex-girlfriend is the new skank. |
| Primus – Hellbound 17 1/2 (Theme From) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Why? Because the first album they made with him was the Brown Album? If not, please recognize Brain's talent by listening to the live recording of Tommy the Cat found on the album Rhinoplasty. Ain't no psuedo-Mexican like 'im! |
| Primus – Camelback Cinema Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The Camelback thing might be a reference to a... camel toe... And the Cinema part is about watching them. |
| Radiohead – 2 + 2 = 5 (The Lukewarm) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
He says "Don't question my authority or put me in the BOX." And this is definitely a reference to 1984, one of my favorite novels. |
| Radiohead – Nice Dream Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I agree with the thing about ti being about not fitting in. Oh, and the title is actually (nice dream). |
| Radiohead – My Iron Lung Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Somebody tell me what the *forty-seven!* the chorus means! | |
| Radiohead – Faithless, the Wonderboy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Philstratz has got it right. | |
| Primus – Bobs Party Time Lounge Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is the same track on Brown Album and Rhinoplasty... Just thought I'd share. Also, I don't know how this song ties into the nineteenth century thing, I just think it's about what Bauds here said. Although, knowing Primus, there is probably much more to this song than meets the eye. A great example of that is Mr. Krinkle. |
