Woods – Ring Me To Sleep Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm pretty sure it's "no long-neck birds with their heads in the sand"

Tom Waits – All the World Is Green Lyrics 16 years ago
Holy crap. Where were you that they were playing this? If there was a bar/club near me that played Tom Waits I bet I'd never be out of it... That said, this song is absolutely perfect. To meet a girl who likes this song... Well. It would be a damn miracle.

Modest Mouse – Cowboy Dan Lyrics 17 years ago
There's a bitter sense of irony in calling Cowboy Dan a "major player", because he's not in any sense that someone else would recognise. The "cowboy scene" is dead due to industrialisation; the world has moved on and left him ruined. It's the ultimate song about raging despair. Cowboy Dan is a despicable character, but pitiable if you know what it's like to be that close to the edge.

Man, whoever put this up left off the last "reeeeeeeeeed" at the end! So disappointing.

The chorus lyrics are probably the most trite lines that Isaac Brock has ever written.

Björk – Pagan Poetry Lyrics 17 years ago
Interesting to note that the video involves footage of sex (although it has some sort of contour filter over it) which was shot by Björk and is of her and her partner. Body piercing is also often used for sexual enhancement, and for many it's a bridging of the pleasure/pain thing which seems to be important to this song too.

Björk – Cocoon Lyrics 17 years ago
I think it's funny that after the bit about ejaculation it goes into the "from a mouth of a girl like me to a boy" part. Snowballing, anybody? I don't think that the two parts are meant to be linked, but it makes the entire thing a little bit more humorous.

The Flaming Lips – Bad Days Lyrics 17 years ago
I know it's cheesy but I think the song is about the importance of the "little things" in life, like sleeping in and fantasizing about a bloody gun battle in the workplace. If you can take enough pleasure in the small stuff that makes you happy you can ignore seemingly big problems, like your boss being horrible, because you come to realise that they're not that important.

The Flaming Lips – Race for the Prize Lyrics 17 years ago
RE: inhumandecency

I think it uses "side by side" in order to highlight the problem of competition and the idea of working WITH one another as opposed to AGAINST one another. They're both striving for exactly the same thing, and by using the phrase "side by side" it shows that they are practically the same and both in it together. The "race for the prize" is ridiculous, we shouldn't be racing one another, we should be pulling together and working as one. That's what the whole song is about, to me. Which means I think it is indeed positive!

The Flaming Lips – Guy Who Got a Headache and Accidentally Saves the World Lyrics 17 years ago
On the Fearless Freaks DVD they show Wayne recording the voice-over thing at the end part of the song, and it's actually longer and he goes into saying that "This has been an advertisement for such-and-such aspirin, the aspirin that's more effective than..." whatever, something like that. Like the whole fantastic story was just made up to sell something. I like that idea. But I guess cutting it out made the song seem more positive, like some weird local news "and now..." piece.

Sparklehorse – Sea Of Teeth Lyrics 17 years ago
To me this song is about the nature of our existence as humans... All the questions that it poses can only be answered with "No". You can't feel the wind of Venus, or taste the sunset. They're all far-off, intangible things that we are very limited in experiencing. But in the meantime, everything that's going on around us will keep on going, "trees will turn to soil" whether we're around or not. It's about how limited our experiences are, in such a vast universe that we're not really that large a part of.

It's absolutely amazing and one of my favourite songs ever.
