I dont know much about the mening of this song, and to tell you the truth I like it that way. The first time I heard this song, I was very stoned, and it blew my mind! I have it on vynil and listening to it while stoned is like eating dessert before dinner if you are a 5 year old (it kicks ass). Even if the song had no lyrics, the trippy guitar and overall rythem of the music is emaculate. Good job Zepp |

if this song doesnt put you in the best mood, you are disturbed. I would give boh of my nuts and an arm to have seen this song live. Its a shame that the man had to die. I tell you this, if they are for hire, I want John, Ray, and Robbie to play at my wedding. |

i could be very wrong, and if I am I would love to know the true meaning of the lyrics "before I sink, into the big sleep...I want to hear the scream of the butterfly" is he referring the butterfly to the youth of his generation, and we wants to see them roar up and overome the extreem obsticles thrown at them by the government and everyone else who was brain washed enough to think that the youth was made up of pussy hippies? damn that was a long sentence hahaha. either way, this song is as close to an audio orgasim as you can get. I agree that it is better than "the end", however it is the "the end" of the second album. WHat a great way to end a record. |

this message is directed souly for SgtLurch who said...."i agree that jim had his moments and i do like the doors but i dont agree with anyone who says hes the greatest song writer ever. hes a druged out rock star end of story. yeh he had some good songs but come on.. best song writer ever?"
first of all, Jim Morrison didnt walk around bragging about being the best song writer ever. He did what he wanted, and people either loved it or hated it. Secondly, I challenge you to name 5 artists that could write better lyrics. You're probably the kind of gu that thinks John Mayer is the best song writer ever. His lyrics were poetry and he was a very smart and educated man. He wasnt just a drugged out rock star, he wasnt aiming to be a rock star. He wanted more than that, he wanted the world as an audience. If you dont understand the Doors then go elsewhere to voice your very nieve opinion. I fuckin hate when people think that the Doors were just a gimmik. The Doors music is true art, a sort of modern day Shakespear. |

Also, whoever said that Waiting for the Sun was at the end of their career needs to stop watching hollywood, Oliver Stone movies to get their Doors facts. The fact is, saying that Jim only did acid is stupid. The truth is, the people closest to him said that he would put anything into his body that was handed to him. The majority of it was acid, pot, and booze, but it would be foolish for anybody to say thats all he did. The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom. Ok, thats all from me haha |

yeah this song is a great example of why every band (and music in general) since the Doors blows. I think that it doesnt have a literal meaning, but since its poetry, it is meant to mean what it means to you when you hear the words. Thats whats so bad ass about Jim and Robbies lyrics...it has a certain meaning to them, but is supposed to strike everybody differently. Thats the point, diversity, art, music, its all stuff that this generation cant comprehend. Bands like "Fall out Boy" and "yellowcard" are pretty much spitting on Morrison's grave by putting out shitty, formulated music. |
