Take That – Back For Good Lyrics 18 years ago
This song always makes me think of when Tim and Dawn finally get their happy ending and I smile for Gervais's romantic heart. The US version may be funny but Ricky's has the laughs and the heart. I like the song though, very sweet.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Babe, I'm on Fire Lyrics 18 years ago
The video cracks me up. I love when he plays his wife and his expression as the sweet little goth clutching his records. Also adore the fact that in the video, he doesn't bother to hide the lyric sheets.

This is what I point to when I say that I need a man who can dance like Nick Cave.

This is great live. However, considering that they (in general) are great live, that doesn't say much.

The Smiths – Rubber Ring Lyrics 18 years ago
This is one of the only songs written about the music that works. I adore everything about it. He's so simply just asking that you remember him when you no longer need him. He's not being arrogant in the slightest, he's not arguing that you will never grow tired of him. The opposite, he expects it.

I'm here with the cause
I'm holding the torch
In the corner of your room
Can you hear me ?
And when you're dancing and laughing
And finally living
Hear my voice in your head
And think of me kindly

That is all just so damn perfect it is shocking.

Having seen him live, he takes this attitude still. He seems genuinly surprised that people are continuing to support him. There is no growing out of Morrissey. I can't grow out of feeling and as long as I feel, he'll always mean the world.

Also, great Oscar Wilde quote. One of my favorites.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – West Country Girl Lyrics 18 years ago
This is one of the most honest and beautiful love poems I've ever read. I also get a little thrill when I hear it because so much of it reminds me of myself.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – The Sorrowful Wife Lyrics 18 years ago
As far as I know, he wrote this about his wife. They were married on the same day as an eclipse and he's said that she arranges furniture. This comes into Babe I'm On Fire as well, his wife arranging furniture (he plays her in the video).

I don't know what he meant by the song though so I can't add anything to the meaning. I could be wrong about the stuff above because I can't recall where I heard him say that.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Oh My Lord Lyrics 18 years ago
The way this song builds sends chills down my spine no matter how many times I hear it. This song hits me physically. Not many songs do that.

The O'Jays – Backstabbers Lyrics 18 years ago
The song is about people with two faces; the ones who appear one way but hide their true intentions. This especially applies to fellow musicians waiting to just knock them out of the way and steal the spotlight. This theme is very common and timeless.

The Impressions – Choice Of Colors Lyrics 18 years ago
Instead of looking inward, it looks outward at society. The song is about civil rights and takes a very bold stance. He sings to African Americans, telling them to make sure and be a part of the solution and not the problem. The lyrics are a calm approach to race boundaries. Mayfield is not being negative or spiteful. His calmness and rationality make it next to impossible to argue with him. He comes across as knowing exactly what he is talking about.

Marvin Gaye – I Heard It Through the Grapevine Lyrics 18 years ago
This is such a great song. Marvin Gaye's voice is prominent and is the focal point of the song. I love the slow build up with the tamborine ringing you in.

Just like everyone already said, the song is about him finding out his girlfriend is cheating on him with her ex. He is demanding that she tell him why she didn’t have the nerve to tell him of her infidelities herself so he wouldn’t have had to hear about it from another person. He’s torn between believing the rumor and giving her the benefit of the doubt because he wants to rumor to be untrue so badly. He doesn't want to live without her.

I also really like how the backup singers give the song a gossipy feel, as if they're spreading rumors.

A very solid song.

Morrissey – Seasick, Yet Still Docked Lyrics 18 years ago
This song breaks my heart. I feel as if he wrote this song to make me smile. It seems odd, but this song makes me happy. While I cried the first time I heard it, it wasn't out of sadness. His music has never made me cry out of sadness.

I really relate to this song. I am so arrogant and yet I can't seem to get other people to see what I want them to see.

I can't talk about this song enough. It's gorgeous. And the video is so fitting. His black and white videos are the best.

Morrissey – I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday Lyrics 18 years ago
I love this song. Not once does he speak of himself. It's all being sung to this other person. But by saying to that person, "I know it's going to happen someday to you" and telling them not to lose faith, he's making the audience think, "Wait, what about you?" By not mentioning himself, the whole song is about him. He knows that what he speaks of just isn't in the cards for his own life. It's always so easy to be positive for other people. It's the most difficult thing to believe in yourself and your own possibilities. It's beautiful.

Morrissey – Glamorous Glue Lyrics 18 years ago
I've heard jar being used as a term for a pint. Alcohol. Drinking tends to bring your mood down. The song starts with his realizing that everyone lies and he ends by attacking England, he's forced to see that the London he dreamed of is bollocks. He's still too much in love and in order to deal with that, he has to leave. It's a very romantic song. As for the title, I've never been entirely sure but I like that about it. I don't like knowing everything about everything. I prefer knowing nothing about anything. You have somewhere to go.

Morrissey – Alsatian Cousin Lyrics 18 years ago
Firstly, to nightandday: You're awesome just for mentioning Nick Cave. I agree with what you said.

I don't know what sex these people are but that's not what I care about.

What I love about this song is:

"A note upon his desk
"P.S. Bring Me Home And Have Me!"
Leather elbows on a tweed coat
-Oh!-
Is THAT the best you can do ?
So came his reply :
"But on the desk is where I want you!"

That is so brilliantly put and the detail of leather elbows on a tweed coat is genius. Whoever left the note wants to be taken home and the person the note is for wants it on the desk instead.
