I think ths song is about graduting. I just graduated this year and this CD, felt like every song was hitting home. Here is how i defend my stance: "i got a story it's almost finished" school is coming to an end "but windows open and close thats just how it goes" what i think he means by this is that time old saying when one door closes another opens; and what is the ultimate definition of this? a high school graduation, whe one chapter of your life ends another will open "dont it feel like sunshine afterall the world we love forever, gone" hes scared that hes going out into the world but he knows its to brighter days "you should the canals are freezing you should see me high you should just be here be with me here" (god, thats my favoite part); anyway, its like he wants his friends, maybe girlfried, to be with him evry step of the way but he knows theyre all going off in different directions anyway, the best thing about jimmy eat world is they wrte songs that can mean s much to people for different things they recently passed brand new as my favorite band |

i love it so much pretty much the same as any brand new fan though ahn TM: i think "is that what you call tact// you're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back" is a refrence to how blatent the girl would toy with his emotions, you know? kind of like right in his face she has no tact and shes certainly not subtle, at least from jesse's perspective anyway |

i think this song still has a religious undertone too it like to me, this may sound so wrong, but when he says "you say youre my friend but why wont you be my family" i think hes trying to say how people reject god as their father in their life but then turn around and want forgivness when they sin sort of like a friend would do as opposed to your family? haha idk, it hought it sounded right at the time |
