It's definitely about his grandfather having cancer, as a lot of you have mentioned, but I think everyone can take their own meaning out of it, I think people write songs with that intention. The way I interpret it, or what it means to me when I listen to it, is that someone he cares about is very depressed, and while he's on tour, or away from this person, they make an attempt to take their own life. This part especially gets to me: "I'm not letting you check out You will beat this starting now and you will always be around I'm there to monitor your breathing I will watch you while you're sleeping I will keep you safe and sound" This part of the song is what I wish someone would sing to me when I'm feeling down. It sounds like unconditional love to me, that he's singing to someone telling urging them to beat whatever has them feeling like they, whatever made them do what they did because he loves them and couldn't bare to be without them. That's just what this song means to me. |
