Dido – Isobel Lyrics 18 years ago
I've always felt this is a song about a friend who commits suicide either out of grief over an abortion or a dead lover. The chorus in particular gives the impression of a lasting depression "It's been such hell" "It's been a long time coming" and now Didio is hoping her friend has made the right decision and is better of and happier where she has gone now after death. The lines "and long will it last" and "I'm helping it pass by loving you more" are saying that death is final, it will last infinately, and that Dido is dealing with her grief over her friend by loving her and supporting her decision if it it's what she wanted.

Sufjan Stevens – John Wayne Gacy, Jr. Lyrics 18 years ago
I love this song, it's beautiful and I actually really relate to it; the way I think it's intended. Which is not that Sufjan Stevens considers himself as evil as this murderer, but this is an extreme representation of the idea that no matter how we all appear on the outside or what is thought of us, - "The neighbors they adored him For his humor and his conversation" we all eep secrets of the most evil parts of ourselves, some worse than others, whatever they may be

Sarah McLachlan – Adia Lyrics 18 years ago
I don't think this is a song about romantic love at all, rather I find it quite sad.
Adia is lost and broken. I get the feeling that she's probibly been abused , or more likely involvd in prostitution, and therefore has had her innocence stolen.
However she feels like she never had any, that she is not worth loving becasue she is dirty and shameful. Sarah sings about how she loves Adia as the person she is, but she has failed her becasue her love is not enough. It's not enough for her to;
"pull you from your tower
I take away your pain
and show you all the beauty you possess
if you'd only let yourself believe that
we are born innocent"
Becasue her love can't make Adia love herself or accept herself as innocent of crimes done to her.
The basis of the song I think is a situation that Adia and Sarah found themselves in together, Sarah has been able to move on and build her life up in spite of it, but Adia has let it drag her down and convince her of her worthlessness.
"We all falter, does it matter?"
*
saying this though it is only my opinion and may not be correct and I highly doubt the above is true of Sarah McLaughlans life*

I love it, it's beautiful song, and a funny little way to try and say sorry to some one and make them smile at the same time

Tegan and Sara – You Wouldn't Like Me Lyrics 18 years ago
I understand this song implicitly, and I don't think it's about a realationship so to speak, or has to be. I think it's just two people who are maybe freinds or more and, they haven't seen eachother in a while. One of them (the voice of the song) is having a tough time, and they're frustrated with themsleves and don't like themsleves and they're lonely. "I can't stop talking for fear of listening to unwelcome sound" meaing the silence that's left behind if she dosn't talk to herself, since no one else is there for her to talk to, as this person hasn't called in weeks. - The point of the song is that the person is lonely and wants contact with the other person, but at the same time they understand why they may be staying away because they wouldn't like themselves if they met them either. And though they may not love this other person forever, and they may stop being friends or lovers or whatever at some point, they just don't want it to be now.

K's Choice – My Heart Lyrics 18 years ago
It means so much to me, because it's how I feel alot of the time. It's about a couple, they've probibly been together a while, but...things aren't perfect. They love eachother, but because of the way they are they're learning that they can't be together. The ticking of the clock refers to how their relationship is inevitably running out of time, but neither one wnts to amke the move to go because they really do love eachother, and it would break their heart. They can't be together, but they can't face being apart, and that's devastating....

Damien Rice – 9 Crimes Lyrics 19 years ago
I think the song is about cheating yes, but also the guilt that comes with it. It starts at the end of the story, with the woman trying to meet someone new, but finds she's thinking of her lod lover and realsies it's not time yet.
The verse Damien sings tells what happened between them: he cheated on her but the chorus expains that he feels despicable about what he's done. The line "give my gun away when it's loaded...if you don't shoot it how am I supposed to hold it?" Figuratively it means that he's loaded his own gun to kill himself, the bullets are his actions, and rightfully he should she should shoot him with them as those are the consequences - his death = the end of their relationship. But even if she dosn't use the ammunition he's giving her, he still can't live with his actions "how am I supposed to hold it?"
