I think this song is about a guy who's had a good life, he's done everything he wanted to do - "I’ve tried to reach the highest point of vision and my dreams appear fulfilled" But when he actually looks at the world around him, he wonders what it's all about - "But held before my eyes is a vision that now lies Forever searching for the purpose are we running out of time" He knows his life is completely worthless even though it's been great because he can't do anything to change the state of the world. He sees the needless death and suffering around him. "The sands of time are pointless in a useless ugly world" he wants to tell let people know what they are doing but nobody listens to him, they "Deny it, ignore it and cover it in shame in your arrogant nameless void " "Nothing brings peace of mind, I leave nothing behind if my words are left unheard " |

| In relation to the Mindcrime story, Nikki, tells X that he wants out but DRX says he can't leave cause he knows he's dependant on heroin and DrX supplies it for him. X tries to temp him with drugs but Nikki gets away. He wanders down alleys and notices words written on the wall. "Don't trust the the needle, it lies" He's so inspired by this that he carves the words into his arm and whenever he feels like a fix, he looks at his arm and it tells him not to.
