| The Spill Canvas – Natalie Marie and 1cc Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Whole new theory on the song, his song is about someone he truly loves and has been in a relationship with/married to for a long time. "Natalie" is in the hospital with no chance of recovery, more or less on life support. this gives reason to why he says "when we touch" the whole therapist convincing him she's not real is about the grief counselor trying to convince him to let her go because she's dead and never coming back, and his inability to move on or admit the fact that she's dead. also this puts a lot towards the line "i spent every cent I had just to buy you the things that you would ultimately never get" he was buying her all kinds of presents and and gifts for when she wakes up, even though she never would. furthermore "i lost everything i own, i don't need it can't you tell?" refers to him not going to his job anymore, and just staying with her at the hospital all day and night while the bills stack up and he loses all of his material things. (the 1cc also could go along with the hospital and dosage of drugs prescribed to her or him) and remember, he says "like the doctor said you were always dead" he said doctor, not therapist, and that sentence alone is saying that she was "Dead" from the start, they could keep her body alive but she would never come back, she was always dead. and this whole theory on the meaning of the song never came to me until i listened to the lines that come after he said he's injured himself severely "now i'm in stitches over you and over you now i'm in stitches over you and over you" he's singing about being on her grave, he's in stitches (talking about all the pain and agony caused by her death) over you (the first "over you" refers to the cause of him being in "stitches") and over you ( the second "over you" refers to him being over her, kneeling on her grave directly above her) just my thoughts on the song, but who knows (= oh yeah, and what a damn good song. |

| Dashboard Confessional – Stolen Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I tear up listening to this song and reading all the posts...so many people who relate to the simple line "you have stolen my heart." Whether we Hold onto that Person who stole our hearts Or Lost them, Every one of Us is Truly Blessed to have Experienced such a Unique universal thing that Many would die To have.. | |
| Underoath – Sálmarnir Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Alright now that we've all discussed the bands origins....lets go back to what this page is about, the song. What does it mean? Why did they chose these words? Why an icelandic title, a russian over-voice, and an english under-voice screaming it to a hysteric crowd? They're obviously relating this psalm to an event or occurance, some history buff please help us out with this. | |

ALL MY WALKING, TALKING, SLEEPING, BREATHING, NOTHING WILL EVER BE THE SAME~ yeah. first time i heard this song, especially that line, was the first time my car seat was introduced to tears. I'd just lost the most passionate and deep love i've ever had. this song, without doubt, is the best break-up song ever. i was with an indian girl, and of course her family and culture would never allow us to truly be together, we kept it going for nearly a year in the shade...but eventually it was just too much for us to bear. haha, i miss you sharms. |

| The Spill Canvas – Teleport: A & B Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| ahhh that marriage one sounds exactly right when put to the chorus, though incongruent with the rest of the song. great idea; although the rest of the song moves along with a long-distance relationship. TSC always seems to have double meanings in their songs so i wouldn't be surprised either way. anyone else going to see them in the Warped 2007 tour? | |
| The Spill Canvas – This Is For Keeps Lyrics | 18 years ago |

yeah, finally some people started getting what this song way about. he's saying not even eternity could be enough time with her, a beautiful message, and the only way he could really convey that was through a vampire, but ther's a couple a of puns yall missed. the obvious "my pulse is flat-line". yeah. double-meaning, he's nervous as can be to propose or he's just you're every-day walking dead :D "your chin, it deips a bloody color ~ of rust" yeah, she's a vampire now. now here's the one that yall missed, kinda funny when you realize it. "i am raising up the STAKEs of this round i am playing for keeps" haha, he snuck the word stake into the song, which is definitely a pun on vampires once again. and then of course playing for keeps, they're together. you guys pretty much covered the rest. however: I have a theory, this song isn't about vampirism at all. It's not relating humans to vampires, he's relating vampires to humans, i mean the vampire theory works marvelously and yeah, that's what the surface of the song is but i can't help but think it goes a LOT deeper than that, vampire is too obvious. Why do i think this? the last four lines, though beautiful, don't go along with the song at all. The only way they could make sense is either if his theory on vampires is once they become a vampire they have to die naturally to become immortal. "drown together and immortalize you and me." But that still leaves some gaps left, i can't find it, but i think due to those last lines there is a whole nother meaning to this song. haha, and like everyone on these effin forums, i love this song so much, i can't hear it without being overflown by memories of a lost love. |

| The Spill Canvas – Sunsets And Car Crashes Lyrics | 18 years ago |

oh yeah, i forgot the second way i could think of to kinda tie the car crashes part into it. The only part of the song that just makes no sense what-so-ever is "so tell me this, do you know how we'd meet?" Perhaps this whole song was written about a girl the writer met in just an every-day car crash. Whatever the reason being for "car crashes" in the title is, it adds so much mystery and depth to the song, i love it. |

I think the collapse to the grass is him being depressed, because she treats him wrong in someway, perhaps BOOM was right in saying she leaves him at night, hence "as the stars chase you away." Then the next lines "let the rain fill my mouth and in a couple of hours i'll be dead, and all the while my lips are whistling our tune, but the beauty lies in how you will revive me soon" He's saying he's given up on it all, so he lays there without struggling anymore. the "rain fills my mouth and in a couple of hours i'll be dead" is the set-up for how she always gets him back, because if someone is dieing/just died from water, how do you save them? Mouth-to-mouth, it's a reference to all it takes is a kiss and he's back again, he's fighting to be alive (with her) again. This also makes sense when you think about "you are like a hurricane to me, your violence is beautiful and your center sweet" the violence in the mistreatment of him, but at the same time he can't help but seeing so much more in her. There are only two ways i can tie in the car crashes to this, the good side of her, what he sings about in the first verse, when he calls her a sunset, and when she 'revives' him, that's the sunset part of the title. Then the 'violence', his depression and such is the car crash, to him she encompasses the beauty of sunsets and the horror of car crashes. oh yeah. and this is the single best song ever. Haha back in highschool i got a note from a girl that had "you are like a sunset to me" written on the front. I looked up the words on google and found this band, and before i knew it, i loved her more passionately than anyone else i've ever met/been with. |

Sorry for the double post!!!! i just had to fix some things from my first one, disregard it and read this one!! lyric corrections : first verse "but you collect them all" should be "but you can love them all" 2nd verse : 'like cuts of empty space' should be 'like i'm some empty space' I think there is a whole different spin on this song. I think that he's singing to his love, who is an alcoholic, and relates her disease and obsession with alcohol to his (disease to her) and his obsession with her. "there's just so many things you never needed to say, like i'm you're other soul, but you can love them all" is him saying, that she said he was his other soul, but at the same time he feels that she loves alcohol just as much. After he says "your tears are meaningless, they're written on your face", which to me means the tears are meaningless because they're fake, and false, hence "written on your face", like an alcoholic swearing to stop drinking over and over. Then it comes, "just like the chemical, just like the disease that stains your lips tonight" that to me is clear that he's talking about her drinking habits, then says "you are the disease that's in my life", saying that as alcohol is her disease, she is his, neither of them can give up what they love. The chorus, "if it's no one's fault then there's no one to blame and nothing to say", it's like using alcohol as an excuse, it's not your/my fault, it's the disease. "it's not one's fault so there's nothing to save, and no one to hate, but i want to so bad, believe me" the 'i want to so bad' is reffering to 'nothing to save', he wants to save himself from her, like an alcoholic from their disease, but there's nothing he can do. Not even hate her, not even the disease - 'no one to hate'. Then second verse. he starts talking to her, when under the influence, he's just an empty space. the stupid look off of your face refers to drunken expressions. then next two lines "you're not the finest one, you're not the only one" he's singing to the disease itself, following it by "you're just the disease ~ that stains her lips tonight", "you are the disease that's in my life" he's saying the disease in her life is the disease in his life, poisoning their relationship. I'd like to re-iterate about the chorus, "but i want to so bad, believe me" after "if it's no ones fault theres just nothing to save, and no one to hate" is him saying he can't blame her, he can't save her, and he can't hate anyone at all for it so he's trapped. I think the next group of words is really what brings it home. He speaks as though he is the alcohol itself. "we're great in small doces, i pronounce it" - he's saying that when she only has small doses of alcohol she's fine, and they as a couple are fine. "you're satisfied loving me" she is satisfied as long as alcohol is in her life, almost as a underlying message he is displaying his jealousy of it on a certain level. "you're so proud of yourself, and your disadvantage to me" "it's just something you love to say" again, speaking as alcohol itself, he's saying she's proud when she's drunk, that she gloats about how hard she parties, and that she loves to blame it on the disease, alcoholism. "the greater the dosage, makes me mispronounce it to be" "YOU'RE DEAD INSIDE OF ME!!" this is a strong line, where he is now talking directly to her. he is saying the more she consumes, the more contempt he has, and in those moments he's ready to give up on her completely and finally move on. Then another absolutely amazing line from evans blue, "but when you're alone, and no one knows, it doesn't seem to matter!!" he's saying, that when she's drunk by herself and 'no one knows' meaning she's not at a party or around people (guys) that it doesn't bother him hardly at all, it's when she's drunk with other company that kills him. Then Evans Blue pulls it all together and explains what about their relationship keeps him with her through all the pain and hardships "you're the same inside of me", he is telling her, what alcoholism and alcohol is to you, you are to me. So even though she knows drinking is wrong and that drinking makes you sick and feel bad and needs to be given up, she still drinks without control. And to him, even though he knows being with her is wrong and he needs to give it up, and that he feels bad and sick and angry about it, He Still Loves Her Without Control. That is such an amazing parallel they drew. The last chorus he starts singing as though they've both accepted their diseases, her to alcohol and him to her, and the last part "if i say i want you so bad, it doesn't matter, don't believe me, you're just the disease that was in my LIIIIIIFE" this to me is saying that he finally broke up with her, which in turn caused her to quit drinking. The words "if i say i want you so bad" shows that even though she's tried to stop drinking, she still wants the alcohol so bad, and even though he has given her up, he still wants her so bad, and the song ends with them both in denile. This is my first post on SongMeanings, sorry it was so lengthy i just really wanted to analyze this song, i've been listening to it for a year and reading over the lyrics constantly and it wasn't until yesterday that all these things started standing out to me so strongly, someone please give me some input on my interpretation, tell me what you think. |
