I'm interested in this song thinking about how Amanda is a very sexual person by nature. I would be as bold as to draw a connection between the line "But you only love in red" and virginity, or the loss of viginity to be more specific. Also, I would think that the "But your one trick pony's dead" line is a direct reference to the fact that after he fucks her, her virginity is gone, so why would he stick around? The rest of the song goes on to say "And I love you like a mother, even after all she's done" and it reminds me of the book "A Child Called It" where the boy loves his mother even after the vile things she does to him, because it's his mother and he will love her no matter what. It sounds like she is hitting a similar point here in this song... not to say that Amanda is a virgin, but if you take the song from a random girl's perspective, it makes more sense. |

Along with "Reply" this is one of my favourite songs on the CD. When I listen to it, it sounds like despite her second thoughts about getting out of whatever/wherever she is facing, she just sounds relieved... almost like it was a long time coming and there was no other option. I like that sense of relief. It's very refreshing. |
