I know that this is like, four years after this album/song came out, but I've always been confused about this song. But, suddenly, I think I figured it out. I think maybe it's about the awkwardness of having sex at an adolescent age, or maybe taking your virginity, or perhaps even an argument after having sex or something. He talks about how his body aches, and taking because they give. A lot of this album seemed to be about love/lust and maybe even the awkwardness of it and this song really brought that out. |

During the eulogy at my bestfriend's funeral, his father told a story of Christian (my friend) wanting to go to a DCFC concert with his older brother, Justin, and how it was Christian's first concert. His dad decided to tag along, "But first," Christian insisted, "you have to know all of the songs." So every day for weeks on end, Christian would take his dad up to his room when he got home from school and make him sit on his bed and make his dad listen to DCFC CDs all afternoon until he knew every word to every song they ever wrote. By the time the concert came, Christian's dad was a regular Death Cab fan. This was the song they played at his funeral. This song means so much more to me than anyone would ever know. I don't know if they chose this song because it was one of Christian's favorites or if they understood the meaning and took it to literal terms, but whatever it was, I'm glad they did it. This song is always going to have a special place in my heart. |

I love how listening to The Almost you hear so much of UnderOATH in their music. The way he says "oh so naturally" is definately some sort of deja vu from UnderOATH, for me at least. Everyone's so worried that UnderOATH is over now because Aaron moved onto The Almost as a side-project. But for me, the fact that you can hear the heart of his music [UnderOATH] in this band is so reassuring and so comforting. |

This song is so incredible. I think it's about avoiding death and not really accepting it, but you know you have to once they set the corpse into the ground. Then from that point on it's about moving on and showing that you're okay, or not showing at all, escaping from the people who knew the deceased and not showing your face to them at all, to let the wonder what happened to you and how you're holding up. I've definately been going through this for the past six months. I've definately had to escape from not only the lovers of the deceased, but myself as well. I love the thought process that goes into Conor's songs, or even the lack of thought. Each of his songs either are made up of billions of images and thoughts that run through your mind or nothing at all, just blankness and loss, but not in a negative way. The things you can't help but think when listening to his voice are indescribable and this song is no different. |
