Damien Rice – Delicate Lyrics 17 years ago
For me, I think it has more of a personal meaning...not anything with a "forbidden" relationship, but just a "he's not into me like I'm into him" thing. When I was in high school I had feelings for this older guy who I thought had feelings for me, so we started to make out and I really thought he liked me...but when we were around other people he never showed me any attention. It was like I didn't exist. When we were alone, he would say all these wonderful things about how beautiful I was and how sweet and perfect I was, but then when we weren't alone...it's just like the lyric "Why'd you sing hallelujah if it means nothing to you, why'd you sing with me at all?" Why would he say all these loving things if he didn't mean them? And I just used to think that because I was younger than him it was a "delicate" situation. This song really speaks to me because I think it means something like what i went through. It's an absolutely beautiful song.

I think I read somewhere that either Charlotte or someone she knew struggled with anorexia and that's what this song is about, anorexia and how it messes with your mind and how hard it is to get over that.

Charlotte Martin – Sweet Chariot Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song is about someone who took advantage of the speaker. She was with him because she thought he loved her, but he was just using her ("And he judged my love, my lust, my taste / With the straightest face", and "And he took me further than I wanted to go / Underneath his shoe"). And the problem is that she can't convince herself that she doesn't love him ("My denial is how we began and how we will end and now that I know"). She needs to get out of the situation, which is why she's pleading for someone to help her "get out of here." At least, that's what I'm thinking...and this song is beautiful.
