| At the Drive-In – One Armed Scissor Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is a prelude to the concept of the album. Being the 3rd song, we are shown a man known as One Armed Scissor. He has been alienated from society, and people think he is a waster, but the following lyrics cast him in a different kind of light. What the album R.o.C is about is how organized religion, specifically the "bloody Church of England" as CB put it, reflects on our society and alienates people that society doesn't want, thus making those in religious power their own gods. The album is a very pro-god anti-religous establishment album. Men create this all powerful god in their image and give him what they deem to be his powers, and then twist it around all the time. Since organized religion creates god, the can twist it every which way. The lyrics on the album are preluded by this message | |

| Deftones – Digital Bath Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Well I read somewhere that white pony has themes running through it about doing psycho kinda shit. another song is about kidnapping a woman and putting her in the trunk so I believe this is about being infatuated by a woman so much that he electrocutes her in the bath. It doesnt mean he is actually gonna do it in real life because maybe he is singing from the perspective of someone else like a serial killer. When he says 'I know you can see the cord breakaway' that might be her thrashing around being electrocuted that she pulls the appliance cord out of the wall socket but it is too late. she died. 'Tonight I feel like more' i think the serial killer who is so fuct up that sex is not enough, they need to kill to get reach their ultimate sexual pleasure. sick and dark, but if you listen to it while standing at the bus stop like I did tonight, it somehow makes you feel really cool. There was this one drunk idiot at the lights yelling shit out of the car window at people but he didnt say shit to me probably because that song was on my ipod and he felt strangely uneasy. I think if another song was on he would def had said some shit. So thanks to the deftones for an amazing song - the acoustic version is mean as too. Fully sick. |

| Silverchair – Straight Lines Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this song is about overcoming his reactive arthritis not his anorexia which he was well over when he would have wrote this. 'searching to find traces of a good luck academy' might be Johns not being able to believe how unlucky he has been with illnesses. He talks about being set on fire in the evening, to me that's the pain in his joints. He got so weak he needed help to get around so didnt feel like a man anymore - sex change. (bit sexist but hey they are newy bogans at heart) As the song builds and gets stronger, so does he. He apparently even had to use a walking stick for a while, thats how bad it got, so although I think 'walking in a straight line' can be taken semi literally, to me it more represents just getting stronger, getting back on track and not looking back and just fuckin charging. Go the 'chair! | |
| Silverchair – Luv Your Life Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I fink this song is about 100's of people saying to John's - "Why are you so unhappy?" - "I would love to have your life" But 'they don't know the truth' The altered perception of what it's like to be in a rock'n'roll band. How it looks like a nonstop party from the outside but 'you don't know the truth' - Once you have been doing it for a few years it becomes almost normal for you. You also lose your freedom because you are constantly recognized and cant be a normal guy anymore. The uplifting "do do do do do do" bit at the end offers some hope that there will be an end to the 'labyrinth of sympathy' and depression. 'But frozen eyes are bound to melt' I like to think is a reference to someone coming back from lonliness and isolation and stepping back into the real world which Johns has so triumphantly done. Rock on the chair its good to have you back! |

| Silverchair – Acid Rain Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Yeah, this song kicks ass. It's just sounds like how silverchair would be playing in their garage before they were famous. It's about people around you like your friends taking acid and not really knowing the consequences. its kinda like a warning to them to be careful and hoping that they will not freak out and end up in a mental hospital. |

Finally the 'chair get to make the album they've wanted to make ever since people criticised the fact that their early stuff was too influenced by other acts of the time. (what do you expect when you are only 15?) Its like they had to prove to all the critics that this is not some copycat band. You cant even classify their music today into any specific genre, judging by straight lines the album is going to be so original and so good. Although they almost got there with Diorama, young modern will be the first album without any record company breathing down their necks and forcing them to 'write another tomorrow' Although silverchair are well capable of writing 10 'tomorrows' - we all know this would be career suicide. The critics would slam them for not evolving and would write them off quicker than you can say papa roach. I predict Young Modern will be huge in the states on the back of straight lines - its really that good. If that happens, silverchair will finally have critical AND commercial success stateside (we already know they are legends in Aus) From there Johns will have the ability to write a rock record if he desires and the critics wont be able to say they sound like anyone else. And if they do, flaming jesus look out. After all, the 'chair are the holders of the pick of destiny... that counts for...hmmm... well about everything! |
