I had allways interepeted it as a song about abortion in some way or another. In other days unwed pregnant women would often either be sent to a convent, or would hide their pregnancy and then kill the child later, usually by drowning. Either she is taking her daughter to the river to help her dispose of it, or she is killing her daughter for getting pregnant, or she herself is pregnant and killing her daughter. I took her 'home' could be referenced to heaven. That blue eyed girl - infants often have blue eyes. She also could be projecting her own sin on the baby, or reffering to herself when she says blue eyed whore. little fish big fish give me my daughter - the undenidable guilt and distraught she would have after the act. Dellusionally calling out to the fish to bring her back. |

I've been feeling dull as a coat hanger pretty as a picture of a patient on a fresh iv giddy as a gangbanger with a set of sutures where his magic johnson ought to be all references to abortions. 1. I don't know what the baking cakes for the enemy is, the only thing that comes to mind is that is how some people use to get out of jail was by baking cakes with keys or other such tools to escape. the rest of this is I think a med student making money off their friend's abortions, and they have done two so far...not sure... yes I can do everything you need from out of my new SUV all my work is guaranteed to last the length of your recovery put away those pliers honey trust me cause I know the options how about a nine-month long vacation and a two-foot coffin med student, "back seat abortions," "no you can't do this yourself with pliers, I am the med student here."-kinda tactic to make money. 9 months is your average gestation period, two foot coffin because the abortion was performed at birth or just before it. i've been getting up close and intimate some close calls but I'm getting into it in some states they say you can burn for it but ill burn that bridge when i get to it after the third abortion the med student is finding it easier to perform the abortions, almost killed a couple, but getting better. "Yea, it's illegal, but only if they catch me." it's not a bad thing to get professional it's got a nice ring mandy goes to med school Amanda playfuly/morbidly concidering going to med school just long enough to perform abortions i've been taking tips from the government i've been getting damn good at hiding it fifty bucks a month ought to cover it two down now but who's gonna notice it? and if you show up and I am unavailable my partner Brian would love to take care of you he is a nice man thoroughly reliable he's in a rock band and he goes to med school..... goverment tips, hiding the money that she makes off of it, or possibly governemt school loans, and she only needs fifty bucks to pay it off a month, and thats how much she is charging for the abortions, which she has done two of. But if she is in class at the time, then Brian who goes to med school also can perform the "service." |

When the jester sang for the King and Queen In a coat he borrowed from James Dean And a voice that came from you and me Oh, and while the King was looking down The jester stole his thorny crown The courtroom was adjourned No verdict was returned I think the jester is a musician that performed(maybe opened) for another musician who was #1 at the time. And the line when the king was looking down, is saying that he was becoming less popular. The fact that he says thorny crown is a religious refference, if he was Christian or not, and I think that if we contemplated that long enough, we may know who he is talking about. It possibly means some one who is humble, or maybe some one who sings gospels? I'm far from the era that this song reffers to so it's difficult for me to make the connections, but I think if you can figure out who the king and queen are for sure, figuring out who the jester is would be fairly easy. The jester is probably a "rebel" because of the James Dean refference, and the voice isn't reffering to their actual voice, but to what they sang about. They probably sang about the people, "a voice from you and me." |

P.S. After listening to sweat a few times I then read "A dream within a dream" and oddly enough I could say the poem to match the music to Sweat. It could be he did that on purpose, or it could be my mind playing tricks. Anyone care to try and do the same? |

This song is the prerequisite for the Lateralus album, I believe. You can refference lyrics in this song in many of the songs of Lateralus, including the title track and Parabol and Parabola. I believe that Lateralus is the acceptance and full circle understanding of the wonder and angst in Sweat. Parabol - "so familiar, embracing you, this reality" (reality, as apose to the anti-reality of a dream. Which is what "this reality" felt like before the understanding.) Parabola - "celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing." "we barely remember what came before this precious moment" Lateralus- "over thinking over analyzing sepparates the body from the mind" In Parabola it emphasizes "this body" which I think can be a duel meaning as in your own body, your own shell or it could be some one elses body who is helping you through your life journey-i.e. your partner/significant other (and in that aspect you can see it as a very sexual song, like some people have said they see "Sweat." The other way you can look at Lateralus is very spiritual and esoteric, also another aspect you can see in "Sweat"). The "dream" in sweat I think is the song that represents the mind, and parabol and parabola represent "the body" and lateralus is the explanation of why the two combined are so important. Sweat is the example of the body and mind sepparated, thus the confusion and dellusion of being in a dream within a dream. Sweat is the searching before finding the answer, that awkward limbo-like state that you find yourself in extensive meditation, looking for the answer that has not made itself known to you, yet. Also the reason why this might sound like a drug/trip song is because in extensive meditation and soul searching it is not unlikely to have hallucinogens aide you in your spiritual journey, such as peyote or mushrooms. |
