It's called chocolate because chocolate is like an affair (or drugs, whichever you interpret it) - it's addictive, and even though you know it's wrong (in this case, Gary Lightbody who wrote this and who is the lead singer of Snow Patrol, is not allowed have chocolate because it's bad for his voice, but he likes chocolate and wants it and will sometimes have a bit, despite the fact he knows it's wrong.) you do it anyway. |

I know these are, according to the album, the correct lyrics, but there is another lyric that goes;
'I could take you there but I don't know where to go'
However, on the album it doesn't say this either, but it's pretty obvious so I'm not sure why it's not mentioned.

It's about myxamatosis... 'Bright Eyes' is what happens to the rabbits who contract the disease. 'How can a light that burned so brightly suddenly burn so pale?' meaning the rabbit has died, or the eyes of the rabbit (rabbits generally have big eyes) have paled when they became diseased. 'How can you close and fail' means 'how can the disease do this to you'... it's really obvious when you know the movie is about rabbits... It doesn't really tie in though; it's played when one of the rabbits is shot, which doesn't make much sense... but I think there's hints of myxamatosis throughout the whole film. The 'Black Rabbit of Death' comes when rabbits are dying, and it's like a black spirit floating in the sky. |

I haven't got much to give about the song meaning (I do agree with -Silversun- though) but I just love this song, it's possibly the best track off Eyes Open. I didn't think much of it when I first heard it, but when I listened to it afterwards it really grew on me. Great song. |
