Ben Lee – Catch My Disease Lyrics 18 years ago
The only disease this song is referring to is that of the mind. The universe is perfect , that is all.

Ben Lee – Into The Dark Lyrics 18 years ago
I adore this song as well as the rest of Awake is the New Sleep.

I think Ben Lee had a major awakening. We can see this in the change in his music. He grew up. This album is about reality in it's least deluded form.

A breathing tornado is a description of a human that is in a destructive, confused state of being. Looking outside one's self for answers. Not taking responsibility for one's existence.
Being at the eye of the storm is the state of calm that is found in people who are true adults. Calm, and accepting of the perfection of the universe. Check out the song "Catch my Disease"

"I'm feeling better since I surrendered."

^ There it is, surrender to the perfection of the universe and let it have it's dream, and you too will feel better. I'm discovering many artists that are awake in this very cool way because I too have awakened to the true nature of existence. I love Ben Lee for sharing the message in a positive way. Because frankly it can come in all frequencies and I enjoy the higher frequency of positivity more than the alternative.

kkaaccyy:

I think that interpretation is very elegant and thoughtful, but I would venture to say that it is not likely a very accurate analysis.

However; I do think your interpretation roughly applies because the song is clearly about doing battle with your self. I mean self in the ego sense. Our egos are constructed of beliefs. They did not come from us. The old guard is that set of beliefs. If you are able to realize that every belief in the universe is our choice, and the current set isn't helping you have a good dream, kill them. Off with their heads is a classic symbol of the battle against untruth. Essentially, one must sever one's own head in the process of awakening.

you're not obliged to swallow anything you despise. Think about this, if you are the dreaming creator of all existence, why should you have to live your life the way anyone else says?

Now the part of the song that sealed the deal for me:

Just put yourself in my new shoes.
And see that I do what I do,
Because the old guard still offend,

I have been going through this process. I am awakening. I want people to understand why I am doing it. It makes one seem crazy to wake up from the dream. But like Captain Ahab, one must "enlist every ounce of your bright blood and off with their heads"
That's what Ahab's White Whale was...anything you want it to be. It's a canvas upon which to paint your obstacles. It's the prison without bars, the gateless gate.

I feel this song is one of the coolest ever created.

I agree with Heyheyhey111. I think the correct interpretation for this song is the internal battle of belief versus truth.
"Enlist every ounce of your bright blood, and off with their heads."
In other words use all your available power to plow through the frontiers of your mind. Decapitate the illusory versions of yourself that came from other people. This song is a road map to self-immolation. When the self is dissolved, the truth will emerge.
References to flow and dependence the old guard all spelled it out for me. This song is about ego and the way it is formed by the beliefs we take on from other people. If you could sum this song up in one line...
THINK FOR YOURSELF.
