Oh jeez, that was one heck of a place to use the wrong word, nadjacs -- with "then" instead of "for"/"because", I actually derived a necrophilic meaning from the translation (eek! not good!). Phew, everything's safe now. :P Anyway, the initial imagery is of some man giving his lover a merciful death (or losing her in a tragic turn of events). This is a pretty nice interpretation by itself. However, as I re-read it with Eisbrecher's naval/militaristic theme in mind, I keep thinking of two damaged submarines. One of them is unrecoverably wrecked and the crews both know it can't get back to the surface -- so the other crew sends off off the doomed one on a final farewell, perhaps with a final flash of light (literal, or referring to a blip on the sonar). "Your heart beats at the abyss The night envelops your last word" Heartbeat -- ping? Abyss -- the depths of the sea? Night -- the darkness of the waters in the deep? Do they lose communication channels? Maybe I am way off, but it's fun to speculate... anyway, this is an addictive song for me. Have had it on repeat for weeks now. :) |
