The Cat Empire – Down at the 303 Lyrics 19 years ago
this song doesnt only sound amazing and has amazing skill involved in the lyrics
("While you’re making a concert of convicts who
Stumbled through the contest I’m taking the
Concept of convex and putting it in a concave context"
that is GOOD alliteration)
its also adressing a real issue, the amazing amount of rip-offs only looking to make money out of honest artists, and how much the cat empire hates them.

also:
"I want some culture
Never mind the cheese
Just want to hear music
And originality

I want some culture
Never mind the TV
Just want to hear music
Down at the 303"
they are calling to our attention the constant loss of our culture, with the youth wasting away in front of the TV (which is NOT culture), and don't care any more about the culture anymore.
and its true. i mean.. if people call 50 cent an 'artist' and his 'music' 'good' then there is something wrong. i always amaze myself at hw many more ways rappers like him can come up with more ways to show off their wealth to the world, taking pride in their poor background which they havent been in for ages, and degrading women. that would be the only skill they have, and thats a pretty useless one. NOT culture

don't waste your life, do the things you want to. the cat empire had 9 lives but wasted them all, you only have one! you might look back and think 'oh i wish i had done that when i still could!'. well. too bad then hmm

The Cat Empire – The Crowd Lyrics 19 years ago
one of my favorite songs of all time.
it seems to be a cry out for more freedom, relaxed atmosphere, more relaxed society, and freedom of expression. the band is expressing their dislike of the crowded, busy, grumpy society with traffic jams and crowded trams.
"they told me time is of the essence
no wandering allowed"
'they' i belive to be society in general, telling him to always be doing something productive and denying them being able to do what they want to 'wandering'

'our houses are rectangular
but life is curved not angular'
= objects are definate things which cannot mvoe, but life is not supposed to be like that. it shouldnt be as regulated. it needs more flexebility

'rain still falls on the halls of power'
= bad thigns still happen to the elite, depression etc. it is not like a utpotia you should spend your entire life working hard for to achieve. they are telling us to do more what we want to in life.

oh and anyone know where 'st. kilda' is? i am guessing it is a beach where you can lie down and relax.

well if this is what they mean i am completely agreeing with them, which is one of the reasons i like this song so much

the cat empire has a couple of fundamental ideas they was to express, (thing 'manifesto'), and this song is talking about how they will, through their music, attempt to do this. the 'friends' are the people who already belive in these ideas, so he is telling us
'if the world contained more people like these
the news would not be telling me about all that warfare endlessly'

The Cat Empire – The Car Song Lyrics 19 years ago
i love this song
i can completely relate to it, haha it fits me so well.
its basically harry describing his grade 10 procrastonation habits, and how the nerd in his class got to be a relaly rich laywer going out with the hottest chick in school, while hewas still bumming around.

well i mean he is now part of the awesomest band on the face of the earth, but not everybody gets that lucky. so kids, do your homework! or you'll end up like i probably will:P
