Agreed, about sad loss...and such a beautiful song, could be universally liked if it got enough play. |

If you've ever cheated on a that "perfect" (?)lover/spouse and lost them because of it, you know exactly what these lyrics speak to...so much so that it is painful to hear the song and be forced yet again to face your wrong decision, realize the pain it cost your soulmate, and the non-stop pain you'll feel (for the rest of your life?) for losing the best thing you'd ever had. You'd do anything to un-do the damage, and your repentence is sincere...but to no avail. It's now a lesson learned, albeit a horribly painful one. |

EVERY war has atrocities and horror, regardless of "who" is involved, whether it's a "justifiable" war, etc.. That's what James sings about. ie. war always involves 1) the presence of evil .. 2) good men standing idle when they could have instead {at risk to themselves} intervened .. 3) civilian carnage and terror.
"Loose Tongue" proudly represents the useful idiots who point out the obvious basic criticisms of war, but lack a non-emotional (ie. logical) alternative. Being overly self-critical, holding hands and praying to your god, sticking the head in the sand, etc. won't cut it ... take that leap of faith with YOUR family, but the appeasement approach doesn't work when it comes to my loved ones! (ever deal with a schoolyard bully?)
Milosevic was ethnic-cleansing, and the US got involved to help stop it (while most of Europe stood by). Saddam was/had been ethnic cleansing as well, not to mention shooting @ US jets enforcing 'no-fly' zones, and {at minimum} misleading the UN re: whether he had truly destroyed his KNOWN WMD programs AS REQUIRED by MULTIPLE UN MANDATES. So what is worse - - entering into war knowing it will produce casualties? ... or standing by until FORCED into it, which invariably leads to exponentially greater casualties? The former trumps the latter. WWII should have proved that to everyone but the willfully blind.
Diplomacy is vital, and war always sucks because of the pain and death it causes... but every act of war is not universally "wrong" if it prevents greater pain in the long run. James' song unintentionally reinforces that argument. |

This is such a simple song, yet it's so full of passion, heartache, angst, regret, and yes, love. Anyone with an ember still alive for their true love must tear up when this plays ... I know I do :( |

The darker use of the piano chords over the Doris Day version is what makes this song. Definitely makes it cunningly complex by combining child-innocent lyrics with the uneasiness portrayed by the music. |

A dear friend introduced me to Pink M. because of this song. I was sooooooooo depressed, my wife had left me and was in the arms of another, I had just injured myself and couldn't exercise, and was living alone with no one to hug. And into this sad-country-song situation enters my friend Patti, who says "listen to this". OK, it didn't outright change my life, but it sure felt uplifting to know someone cared - - this song brings that out in people. |

This tune is so haunting. Here the lyrics are not translated, but basically it's about passing into the later stages of life, all the fun years are behind you and what is there to show for it? Once you know the meaning, just enjoy the beautiful phonics of the lyrics and the music. Great trans-cultural song.
"he writes to the women of France, day and night, hoping they'll respond"
"what fun, what dance ... all without him"
"there is no response, but that's not so bad, as he had fun a long, long time ago" |

I like how it starts off sans music, then slowly builds up along with the rising feelings of sadness the song evokes. Anyone who's been thru a divorce must feel like they've just been hit in the gut again with the emotions this song conjures. |

tsreyb, you are so right with all your posts! I play this over & over when I'm drunk and rueing the lost love of my life. This is THE perfect divorce/regrets song. Guaranteed tears, if not on the first listening, definitely with the 2nd (and 3rd & 4th &....) ... a great way to cleanse the heart. |

If you've ever been both the cheated-on and the "other guy" you feel these lyrics. It's about a sneaking around relationship that should be physical, but that leads to emotional
"Getting lost in her lovin' is your first mistake"
Almost always leads to heartache for someone, regardless. |

The title matches both the woman it reminds me of as well as its sweet tune. Guys, learn the lyrics and sing it to your woman. If you love her like the lyrics reflect, it'll be hard to do with dry eyes...and she'll love it. |

This is my anthem...2 times I've gotten deeply/emotionally involved with a hottie who needed constant man validation. I knew she'd break my heart some day for another guy but I was literally loving the ride too much. I was addicted to crack! My deal with the devil was to enjoy the incredible lust & infatuation knowing that some day she'd break my heart by moving on to another guy. It happened...and like Calvin wrote, the intentional follow-up of "Miss Blue" is a perfect transition from this raw anger/pain rocker to the chill-out ballad. Both mention 1 last time... |

| James Blunt – Goodbye My Lover Lyrics

A perfect word-for-word match for my situation. I met the woman who immediately became my true love, a "too good to be true" relationship in which I allowed myself to become too comfortable as the years added up. I knew she was blinded by love and convinced her to leave her hubby for me. I was convinced myself that she'd stay and over the years I did things and lost her trust, then reacted poorly trying to keep her instead of letting her be free to return when she was ready. We went from incredible, years-long puppy love to being nervous around each other after all the damage. I hurt the woman I love and she left me; my heart breaks not just for my loss, but also for being unable to make up for the pain I inflicted upon her. It's worse than her death would have been, which would have provided closure: instead she is alive and wants nothing to do with me any more. Every lyric reflects 'us' and where we are today. Remorse is appropriately laced throughout. If I'd only seen things more clearly, earlier. If only... |

I love the simplicity & basic love emotion of this song, and I still cry when I hear it, even after all these months after she left. Hopefully no matter how long I live, I won't continue to feel this pain of my lost true love. As someone wrote, "no closure", as with my angry, alcoholic GiGi, is the worst, be it from death or departure. If you love this song, listen to Damien Rice's "Blower's Daughter". |

This perfectly reflects being obsessed with the love of your life, whom you're now losing, and there's nothing you can do about it. With me, it was like floating downstream in a powerful current, watching her on the bank figuratively & literally pulling away, fighting as much as I can til exhaustion but to no avail. I'm a tough guy, but I cry in private any time I hear this song, and am still mourning my Gina, even after nearly a year. To fit 'us' I just change the lyrics into ", the Banker's daughter, the hero in denial". The power of this song is its' lyrical & acoustical simplicity...raw emotion. This song captures my pain. It was 9 years total, my love. I miss you. |
