this song deserves a long comment: i heard eyes on the movie just friends and fell in love with it. because of that movie i bought vultures and asleep at heavens on the same day. truth is and i am ashamed to say, i hated vultures except for publish my love and warmed to heavens first. lately however i listened to the entire songs on vultures and they get so much better. probably then half of what is on heavens. this song starts out questionable but it trully turns to low key masterpeice. in my opinion its about what happens when the girl "who could never publish his love" finally does and its not so good as he thought it would be. "i cant propose and i kept you awake" means he is uncertain they belong together however he cannot just let her go. it also sounds like they are preparing for a wedding. "are you on my side" is his way of saying... i love you now but what if we divorce? do we really need to wed? and everything is summed up when he says "they think that its greek but its pig latin"... a wedding would promote the idea that everything in their relationship is perfect but he knows it is not. "i know you been around" maybe she cheats and he knows? so yeah i just wrote a long comment for a song no one cares about but i credit myself to love a band that is not as popular but is way better than the shins. if you dont like decended like vultures...it just requires patience. |

| i am sorry but i have to comment again. now i really think this song is about his mother. probably about her leaving their family? dont know if his parents are seperated but he does say so in "postage stamp world" - ("mom walked out") anyway i remember my 11th grade teacher saying that the author of Black Boy refrenced a nightmare of milk to represent fear of his mother. maybe zach does that here. as well as other refrences "tossing the baby out"..."theyre all bastards"...somehow i get the feeling this song is about yearning a normal family. a bit melancholy but doent it make you want to just drive somewhere far away? | |

"missed the last train home" - he cannot get back to where he thinks he belongs (his girls priority). "birds pass by to tell me im not alone" - (pun intended) he is lonely and he is not the only one on his girls mind. "well im pushing myself to finish this part" - he has contemplated suicide but decides to bear the pain "i can handle alot but one thing" - (notice almost no pause into the next sentence so its a bit confusing) - he cant picture her... "im missing in your eyes" -... not loving him. "Have you seen this film" he has been through this before "it reminds me of walking through avenues" he feels lost and in somewhat of a maze. "washing my hands of attachments" he does not want to want anymore "i can land on the ground" - the humility of settling for nothing (and then repeat) i might have convened the meanings into my own circumstances but thats what great music is suppose to do. a song that is to good to be true |

| the more listened to, the more attached you get to this song. in my opinion, it is the best song on "asleep at heaven's gate" (even better than lake michigan) though it longitivity drags it down a bit. i can see how this has to do with touring. whining about not being paid attention to and their unpopularity "no one comes out to see us" (which dissapoints me because it seems like rogue wave is underrated [only 6 comments on a song like this!]) note i also think he says "no one comes out to see her" probably means it this way: he only sings about his girl so she is represented by his songs. no one listens to them so he feels like being away from her (or his home) is a waste. sometimes he wants to quit but he cant cuz he makes such refreshing music such as this song. | |

it is "an airborne blight" "there's far less to which I'll be obliged" "or underneath the waves you are most alone" and finally it is "to chill your bones" ok those are the official corrections... well this song had potential of being one of the best songs on the album with its begining. love the steady yet depressing guitar and the noise that sounds like a skateboard. also love mercers, crooning sounds reminicent to a famous phil collins song cant remeber what though. the song loses steam in my opinion; pretty catchy for blandness; was destined for a greater response but i think that not enough time was dedicated to it. for some strange reason it stands out in the album cuz it is sandwiched in the middle of what i call a happy-go-lucky album. it is probably the only song in the album that is sad. i keep thinking he compares the game of duck duck goose to life and how you do not know when you will be picked for something greater and yet doomed for an airborne blight (a hope that will crash down) so its best to be less obliged to things we really want. or in the words of yoda: you must learn to let go of all the things your fear to lose. the nxt verse i guess is for someone who fell already but the bright side is that he has not |

| i have noticed that the shins write sort of these sequel songs. and to me this song is a sequel to kissing the lipless. that song was about a friend who doesnt sleep with her bf so she does it with james. this song starts off with being hurled into the center of the earth / a physics law states that if throw to the center of earth you can never get out. so he is having sex with her again. "place where its hot love". so then he says that he cant go through it anymore because he feels guilty. thirst means shes not getting any so she has satisfy herself with his shores. red rabbits are probably an inside joke between him and the girl. might be about communism. and how she is a tyrant and demands sex even when she is mad at him. hole on the floor represents something he did that always makes her fall and the ghost in the hall is his memory and yet she always calls. this son took a while to get to me. at first it was not good but its actually very cool. i like the french horn in the middle of the song. but yeah this song is practicly kissing the lipless with different words. | |

easily one of the best songs in secrecy...it is a low tone masterpeice. both their voices are unbelievingly magnificent. it is about a boy who honestly loves the girl when he knows he should not "im just a fool" "only you know that it cant be". what makes it worse is that she just confesses that he has been a rebound from her true love which explains why she cannot be real. boy knows this (i really think he says: "im not the only one") but is just too in love with this girl to just let her go. it becomes a waiting game to see who breaks up with who first. (we know that one usuually wants to be the one who breaks up the other but in this case ... the one that leaves loses) neither deserve each other. however their relationshp continues and maybe they learn how to love each other or girl just tells boy what he wants to hear... my favorite song of all time.... you should know that i love you |

| the cat theory might be true but so would the next idea: the narrator first of all is friends with this lily character "when im with her i feel fine"... they are probably good friends and she does not know that he is madly obssessed with her. now the song swings back and forth on past and present ... he thinks that she does not know that he is stalking her but when he goes home "an officer knocks on his door" meaning when he left she called the cops ... which makes him remember why when he was leaving she made a strange gesture that looked like a goodbye and he gaily (shrouded by his obssesion into beliving that she loves him "love is in my heart and in your eyes") says "i know you love me". very very awesome song and if it is about his cat then that makes it funnier | |
