im pretty sure, from the era the song was written, the song is all about drugs and relations with another individual within that era. there was a big glue epidemic in manchester and london at the time, lots of kids died. its a party era where casual, pilled up sex was the norm. the song talks about the regrets and pleasures of drug induced sex... if you turn the song up right at the end, just as the song fades out of my hearing range Morrissey hits these amazing notes that always put a chill down my spine. see if you can hear them, i always thought they should make the song a second longer just to hear him sing that bit, such a good tune. |

agreed! the metaphor of blind pilots i find extremely poigniant and at the same time worrying. not that blind people should not be allowed to fly planes, thts discrimination. i think ben gautry, the lyrics probably written by didz, is singing about trying to save a doomed relationship that he feels, whether his patner made him feel that way or not, was ruined because of his inadequecies, this being a common theme in alot of coopers songs. hence the line "I can't pretend that i could be, the man you said you saw in me" |
