| SafetySuit – Gone Away Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I hear this one similarly a lot of people, but to me it's someone who's about to pass on, so is going away from the world in a literal sense. Of course, that reading requires a belief in reincarnation, but that's how I hear it. | |
| Vienna Teng – My Medea Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think the abortion connection is a bit of a stretch, but Medea is definitely symbolic of destroying some sort of child, be it literal or symbolic. I'm more inclined to say it's about an inner child or muse. | |
| Maroon 5 – Not Falling Apart Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think they're making a reference to The Police with this song. I think it's just about trying to keep it together when someone leaves a lot of damage. | |
| Maroon 5 – Goodnight, Goodnight Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think this is one of the sweetest songs on the album. It's kinda like "She Will be Loved" only less optimistic. I did think of Kryptonite the first time I heard it, though it's a bit different. I think this is about hurting someone but thinking that if you sleep it off it might be better in the morning. | |
| Third Eye Blind – Wounded Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is definitely a great empowerment song be it about rape, abuse, or just taking shit. The message here is great with a great delivery. | |
| t.A.T.u. – Zachem Ya Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Here's an English translation of it (rough): Say why am I waiting for the phone call. Why mute clouds. Sailing to me from afar, and melt. Why did love touched us. Why am I crying for the first time. Why do I want you now, I don't know. I am star, you are star. We were ordered to burn down. Someone gave away, and got The addresses of our meetings. Roughs on the eyes, And nobody will find. The voices will slip, And the ice will crush. And it nobody's without key, And crave in the bed And it is time to turn off, And they are on the back. (you) Smile, unleash, curtain the mirrors, tear up and say, dead, dead . (You) Lock or become nothing. And the hand doesn't tremble. Everything right with my hand May avenge 2x2 on the taxi and (you) suck. But forgive, never. Never ask me for it. OK, OK I found the revenge Powder-everything I have Multiply by 6 Don't call me, don't call me I am tired, I am tired I don't want you You * me Say why am I waiting for the phone call. Why mute clouds. Sailing to me from afar, and melt. Why did love touched us. Why am I crying for the first time. Why do I want you now, I don't know. |

| David Gray – The One I Love Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I always thought "Repo man" referred to the Angel of Death, but I agree with the soldier bit wholeheartedly. I remember listening to this song the first time and half paying attention, but then saying "Hey... wait a minute" and realizing what was really going on. That was very clever of him to write it like that. | |
| Pet Shop Boys – Integral Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Beyond the 9/11 implications (which I'm somewhat reluctant to accept) this is a song in general about systemization of humanity, one that has appeared in many science fiction works. There are also some echoes of Communism and the ideal of the Collective without individualism, and the ideas that those who are accused of parasitism are expelled from the system. I feel that the 9/11 interpretation is a bit too subjective, given the use of this idea for many many years beforehand. | |
| Fear Factory – Digimortal Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Aside from the digital age it could also apply to the objectification of humans as commodities, aside from the aforementioned technological things. | |
| Jason Mraz – Song for a Friend Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Thanks for the interview quote, musictravelfun. That certainly sheds new light onto this song. That in mind, I think this song is about giving someone unconditional love no matter a person's orientation. Being a lesbian, I always found this a very empowering song about getting over depression and having someone to lean on. | |

| Snow Patrol – Ways and Means Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think it's paritally about mental illness and feeling stuck in a relationship. The "dark side in us all" makes me think that. | |
| David Gray – Now and Always Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I'm surprised no one's commented on this one yet. This almost seems like a sequel to Nos de Cariad to me, only the feeling is much more peaceful. What strikes me here is the image of swans on the jet black water, and makes me think of someone walking through the park at sunset thinking about someone they've lost. This is a beautiful song, and I think David Gray is one of the best songwriters when it comes to blending music with imagery in his words. | |
| David Gray – Lately Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think this one is fairly easy to understand, but the back and forth in the bridge I find extremely catchy. I think this is about discontent at the current situation and everything that goes to waste ("fruit that rots on the tree"). | |
| David Gray – Nos Da Cariad Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The "silence is golden" line also always struck me, which made me think terminal illness that someone couldn't talk about because it was too hard to face. The "long black Cadillac" also brings to mind a Hearse, though I realize that's the wrong type of car. He has great images in all his songs here, this one especially. | |
| Train – My Private Nation Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I've been listening to this for years, and I think it's a parent tossing a kid out and trying to teach them hard love. The main message here seems to be that there's no free lunch, and that you have work and fight until you make it. | |
| Phil Collins – Something Happened On The Way To Heaven Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think this is the ultimate "take me back" song that can be applied in so many contexts. It's essentially "I messed up, I'm sorry, I want you back" but the delivery is what makes this in my opinion. | |
| Frou Frou – Close Up Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I get the impression that this is about being tossed into an uncomfortable situation with someone you either don't know or don't necessarily like, but have to rely on, alternating between loving them for keeping you alive and hating them. The "What? How can you be so sure?" line make me think that she wakes up somewhere with a person and they know what's happening, but she doesn't. The last lines make me think that there's a certain giving up "Dive in the water's great" so the person is growing on her. | |
| Sarah McLachlan – Witness Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think it's waiting for some sort of religious sign, since there seems to frustration that a lot has happened with very little visible proof of any good from it. | |
| Aerosmith – Rag Doll Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I agree with Peachila, there seems to be an insinuation that she might be young, especially the doll imagery. The "tap dancing on a landmine" might refer to her being underage, something he also covered in "Sweet Emotion". | |
| Imogen Heap – Daylight Robbery Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I always interpreted this as just the ecstasy of doing something stupid and getting an adrenaline rush off of it, and it reminds me of Times Square at night with so much going on that it completely floors you. | |
| Jason Mraz – Childlike Wildlife Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I interpret this as reflecting on a relationship, that even though it may have ended (the fact that the tempo changes seems to indicate something happened) but the person still serves as a muse, hence the "Is it any wonder why I write... pages layered upon pages". | |
| David Gray – Nos Da Cariad Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I interpret this song as running away from something both metaphorically and literally, perhaps a terminal illness (granted this song was the inspiration for a chapter of a story where a terminal illness is a theme). This song seems to be running from responsibility or something a person is unable to face. | |
