| Radiohead – House of Cards Lyrics | 18 years ago |
For me, this song is almost certainly about a break up. This conviction probably comes from the first two lines "I don't wanna be your friend/ I just wanna be your lover" This song really sounds like how I feel about my (recently ex-)girlfriend... You worry about your house of cards, I'll worry about mine. I think house of cards represent fragile emotions, and, as both she and I are both emotionally volatile, hormonally incensed high school students, I think we were both sick of dealing with each other's problems. That's what it sounds like to me, anyways. |

| The Shins – The Past And Pending Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The French Horn solo was performed by my private instructor, Niels Galloway. It's so fcking awesome I can't control myself. | |
| The Fratellis – Whistle for the Choir Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It feels like he's absolutely in love with this girl, but fears and worries that her affections for him are much smaller. That's what I get from it, but, of course, I am injecting my personal experiences into my interpretation. |

| The Fratellis – Got Ma Nuts From A Hippy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
You've all basically nailed it, I think. The line about the "medicine man" is there, I believe, to identify the female in the song as a hippy sort of person. Think of a hippy on the dance floor.... they'd be all nature-y and Native American-y. Like a medicine man of Native American past. |

| The Brian Jonestown Massacre – Not If You Were the Last Dandy on Earth Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Brutal. You have to love how they even parody the Dandys' musical approach with the "Ba ba ba!"s and the "woo-hoo-hoo!"s |
| The Brian Jonestown Massacre – All Around You (Intro) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Tongue-in-cheek, drugged up hippie excess. | |
| The Brian Jonestown Massacre – Fucker Lyrics | 18 years ago |
These aren't very close to the real lyrics, but they get the point of hating everyone-especially some girl-across. And it's a beautiful song. |

| The Shins – Australia Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Clearly about a woman from Australia whose approach to living clearly does not meet Mercer's approbation. Read the interviews. My interpretation of the "All you want’s one more Saturday" bit is alot different than what I've read here: I believe, especially since he gave this desire to this deplorable woman, that he is bemoaning the utterly simple, stupid, and aimless life of the working man or woman, whose bliss is limited exclusively to weekends. |

| The Dandy Warhols – Bohemian Like You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I'm definitely not seeing the satire. I see the singer as exactly the sort of cool slacker that the Courtney Taylor-Taylor was at the Dandy's inception. He isn't faking his bohemian status: he used to have a car but it wore out and he can't afford another, he works at a vegan restaurant, he's aware of her band but is too cool to have seen it. Both of the "characters" are clearly not making very much money and are simply living in their "urban bohemia", and Mr. Taylor-Taylor is romancing this chick who is almost as much of a loser as he is... |

| The Shins – A Comet Appears Lyrics | 18 years ago |
maddilne: It's a french horn. My instructor, actually. His name is Niels Galloway. You can also hear him on "Oh, Inverted World" on the final track, entitled "The Past and the Pending". He's actually rather upset with how little he is used on this album: he told me that Mercer recorded him playing lengthy bits of improvisation for several tracks, none of which, obviously, were used.. |

| Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Six Barrel Shotgun Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Six barrel shotgun = guitar. I think he's torn between the face-melting music he wants to play and the fact that he must play somewhat commercially appealing music to be a success ("I kill you all but I need you so") |
