It sure is about young love. You can see How Big Star influenced so many, "Night Swimming" from REM would have to be an example.
I have to say though, I love this ORIGINAL Big Star version, Elliot Smith's is great, but the harmonies on this are pretty dang good. |

Just have to throw it out, is it possible he is saying of a good luck on account of/a me" or something like that instead of "academy"? On account a/of me gels better with the song I think. |

Well, I was reading the Stephen King short story "The Body"(later made into the River Phoenix movie "Stand by Me), when I had an epiphany. Maybe, just maybe this name "Ray" was chosen by Evan Dando because he read this short story. In the story a group of kids go looking for the dead body of a kid their age, that they don't know, named Ray Brower. |
