this song is about getting shot down by a girl you really like. "from the other direction, she was calling my eye" the moment he glimpsed her he knew "she was not like other girls". "too pat to open and too cool to bluff" is a poker reference, but it pretty much amounts to "she wouldnt put out". the "matches" is the dope he brought to the table to match her.
i'm not sure about the last part of the song tho... a little help? |

in my version of this song, off of "in the dark" jerry sings "i see you've got your (f)ist out" as opposed to "i see you've got your (l)ist out". anybody know why? |

I might be wrong, but this song seems to be about apathy and media propaganda. the newscaster is giving you the info about how everything in the world is happy, "all you have to do is sit and dream." Its about the news telling you everything is ok when in reality they are just protecting their interests. "sit back, relax, apathy's back in style" |
