When I first started reading the lyrics, to me, the first verse and the chorus sounded like he was describing a drug. She says “I make you wanna climb right out yourself” (It'll be a greaaat high) But have to give up your life (but it will ruin your life) like heroin or something. On 7.8.06, Dave added some lyrics- "yeah she don't need anyone, no she's gonna break free" (this sounds like an addict saying you know "i don't need help, i can do it myself" and the repeated "She's gonna break free" sounds like she's gonna break free from her habbit. I know none of it fits together, nor is it probably what Dave was meaning at all, but it's what it sounded like to me and I thought it would be a great use of words to describe that situation. |

I cannot believe someone can actually put so many words together explaining life so beautifully..it's remarkable. this song is definitely lyrically my favorite dmb song. the meaning is just so beautiful in every line. the first time i heard it i actually was crying in complete bliss. just bawling like a baby for joy. it made me so happy and grateful and i don't even know! i can be having the shittiest day i could imagine and the instant i turn this on, everything is just fuckin fantastic. i really can't believe it. he must have sold his soul to the devil. |

A quote from Dave about his religious beliefs- "It would be safe to say that I'm agnostic. However, I do feel as though we owe a faith to the world and to ourselves. We owe a grace and gratitude to things that have brought us here. But I think it's very ignorant to say, 'Well, for everything, God has a plan.' That's like an excuse...maybe the real faithful act is to commit to something, to take action, as opposed to saying, 'Well, everything is in the hand of God.'" You always gotta remember that not every one of his songs he writes is from his point of view. i mean this one does definitely seem like it but it still doesn't mean that it's his PERSONAL belief or something. Everything he writes about isn't based out of his life or experience. that's what makes him so damn talented is that he can write from other people's perspective and not just about his own life. damn he's good.. |

i think anything of pink floyd, along with any other music artist, is to be interpreted to what the listener hears for them self, because no matter how hard you try, you're never going to fully understand how the writer was feeling at the time he wrote this, or what exactly his impossible metaphors mean. because music can often change your life can't it? and maybe if you're life changing interpretation is incorrect, it still did some justice. idk, i'm just drunk and lovin me some pink floyd..wondering what the hell it might mean. good luck. |

I think he got a lot he didn't expect out of life or career or relationship or whatever. he took a risk and it didn't turn out as smoothly as he wanted but he keeps trying. then he tries hiding that he's fine with things not going as smoothly as he thought they would go. Idk..I can't decide exactly what I think he's talking about though. the 'autographs' part just through me off as the whole fame and music career. like it all didn't turn out as he expected it to be. |

I think it comes off as he's sick of how things have been going so shitty for him but he doesn't want change cause he's afraid of change. he just wants things to get better and he wants to feel confident and "attractive today" on the inside if not the outside. and does anyone else see the lines in many of their songs that seem to pertain to a little bit of alcoholism or is that just me? |
