| Neutral Milk Hotel – Communist Daughter Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Let me just say that I may be crazy, but I got a whole new outlook to this album after hearing "Little Birds," which is about an angry father beating his gay son. This song, as well as several others, could partially parallel that idea, and if that is true, the "communist daughter" might just be what conservative parents think of a gay son, that he is both liberal (communist) and effeminate (daughter). Once again, I'm crazy. | |
| Guster – Long Way Down Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I'm not too analytical with songs, but this song is absolutely my current favorite, and I love it so much. The melody of it is tranquilizing. The lyrics paint a mental image for me of an out-of-body experience in which he is viewing himself and some girl together in bed. He as the singer is ghost-like and cannot stop drifting upwards to the ceiling and beyond, and he is reaching and reaching to her, but to no avail. | |
| Guster – Ruby Falls Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is obviously the monumental cornerpiece of 'Ganging up on the Sun'. It is the long one that has such a great feel to it. It's just so powerful. Ruby falls sounds like a beautiful place, wherever it is. The trumpet flutter is great. I don't know how anyone can call this the worst Guster song. | |
| Guster – Two at a Time Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Are they really a religious band? I listen to so so many indie bands and they are almost all atheists. At first this song, as much as i love it, is supposed to be religious. But now reading these comments, i see it may just be satirizing religion and i am a little less shocked. Great song nonetheless. | |
| Guster – Red Oyster Cult Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song kind of makes such a cult sound glorious. The speaker is kind of feeling old and depressed and he just wants to be able to "drink" some kind of "tea" to make him feel euphoric and youthful. He feels like it is something he can get hooked on like a cult. I also like the Blue Oyster Cult reference. | |
| Aqualung – Something To Believe In Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
First of all, I can't believe there aren't more posts. I thought this would be one of the most popular Aqualung songs. I actually just saw it on a commercial. This song is about how we seem to be all alone in our own lives, and we can't get anywhere in life unless we have someone with us, for someone or something whom we can believe in. He is talking to a girl who lives a lonely, empty life, and she tries to fill her life just by talking to no one and collecting material objects. He also describes himself, who has nothing to him, and if he gets rid of his possessions he has nothing. That's why he needs something to believe in; because without something to look forward to, he is alone. |

| Built to Spill – Goin' Against Your Mind Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
THIS SONG IS BLISS!!! I mean, I listen to this song, and it clears my mind and for 9 minutes I am put into a trance. In addition to the lyrical meaning, this song is a long journey through a drug trip. If you just close your eyes during this song, you just see psychadelic pictures, without actually being on drugs. It is a good song to dance to. It is a song like this that makes me want to see BTS in concert. |

| Arcade Fire – Windowsill Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
i didnt read all the posts so i dont know if someone already said this: win was quoted in Rolling Stone that he wrote this while he went back to Boston. a Boston native who moved to Canada, he no longer feels at home in the US. he wrote this all in a short time that night. btwz, this song kicks ass this band kicks ass war does not kick ass (except literally) arcade fire is my hero for being such an anti-war activist. a similarity between this song and intervention is that he talks of his father and an unpaid debt of his. i dont know win's background but it seems like his father may have been in the military. this of course would have prompted anti-war feelings. the first verse is good because it shows that he would rather give up his freedoms than fight for them. a good song a great album an uber band!!!! |

| The Postal Service – Sleeping In Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| great outlook on global warming. | |
| The Postal Service – Natural Anthem Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i think the instrumental sounds like a clashing metal type sound that is ironically soothing. if you put headphones on, close your eyes, and just blank out, you see some pretty crazy pictures. it actually has cleared my mind sometimes. it is the perfect song for when you need to relax. | |
| Arcade Fire – Intervention Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| im just waiting to find another AF song that is as good as this one. its brilliant. his voice is so powerful. | |
| Death Cab for Cutie – Marching Bands of Manhattan Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| while i agree to everything above, and i think this is a most beautiful song, i don't understand how "open our eyes to see in all directions at the same time" would let you "never be aware of what was around you." somebody please explain. | |
| Modest Mouse – Spitting Venom Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i love the horn part toward the end of the song. it is rare that i can like a long song like this but spitting venom is great. i can listen to it over and over. | |
| The Shins – Phantom Limb Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
WOW good job figuring out the meaning of the lyrics because i would have never guessed them. I just realized though. every song is like an optical illusion. it doesnt matter what the picture is, just what it does to you. same with the music. the lyrics, not even listening to the direct words, can make you feel a certain way, one that blends perfectly with the music. also, i tried to ask mercer on myspace if he would give input on this but he never replied. maybe he wants to keep us guessing. |

| Modest Mouse – Never Ending Math Equation Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
regardless of the meaning, unless you have the lyrics directly in front of you, its almost impossible to tell what isaac is saying. treekid000 is right when he says the song is the result of an acid trip, just like most of the songs. this song is definitely about how the universe is like a well-oiled machine that keeps running flawlessly (all tragedies aside) and how the universe is infinite in both time and extent. also, it is an EQUAtion because the universe really does work in a dynamic EQUILibrium and for every action there is an inverse. isaac wants to run away from something, most likely the search for answers of the universe, but it is something he cant escape. "where do you move when what you're moving from is yourself?" also, it comes as no surprise that isaac is an atheist. first of all, most artists are atheists. second, isaacs mother was a bible nut and traveled around the midwest with different mission type stuff. this probably made him think that what she did made no sense. as a teenager, isaac's mother moved in with i think his uncle, leaving isaac to stay on the second floor of a flaaded house for months until he was evicted. he then traveled from each of his friends' basements until he moved into a small shed outside his mother's trailer. this shed is where the band formed. just a little fyi. also, 'We were dead before the ship sank' was released today. you should buy it. |

| Snow Patrol – Chocolate Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
i understand why its called Chocolate. the song is about how gary once cheated on someone and wants to gain that person back. he says that just because he is sorry about the incident, he cant deny that it was enjoyable, which is very logical. in another sense of chocolate, it is something that is tasty and enjoyable, we all feel guilt from eating it. "Just because im sorry doesnt mean i didnt enjoy it at the time" so there you have it. you're welcome. |

| Snow Patrol – Chasing Cars Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song painted my ideal love scene the first time i heard it. it was great until it had slipped down to my other favorites and then 4 months later it started on the radio. mind you i started listening to it weeks after it was released. i was kinda mad that a song that had meant so much to me was being played nonstop and i became desensitized to it. in other words, the quieter songs are better. i hate when indie bands are mainstreamed. | |
| Slipknot – Duality Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| WHY DO YOU LIKE PEOPLE SCREAMING AT YOU. I HATE SLIPKNOT AND THE LIKE. | |

| Built to Spill – Else Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
this song is mainly about agnosticism. the first line talks about how he is tired of searching for the meaning of something, such as the universe, when he knows the real meaning cant be determined. also, i thought the words were different and it still made sense as: "funny thing with love, you try to stand, you need the legs of a mate" |
|
| The Shins – Pink Bullets Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i have to say that this is the epitamy of metaphoric language. it is a great visualization of a relationship turned stale and then a break up. | |
| The Shins – New Slang Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| this song totally summarizes the movie "Garden State", the movie that gave the song its fame. i only wish they played it at the end when natalie portman comes back at the airport and they emphsized that "if she took to (zach braff) like a gull takes to the wind" then "the rest of their lives would have fared well" | |
| The Shins – Phantom Limb Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| hmm, why dont we settle this confusion and if anyone here has any connections to the band, email about the situation and get the input of Mercer's actual intentions in writing the song. | |
| The Shins – Phantom Limb Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
regardless of the lyrics this song makes for a great fight anthem. when the music hits the point "so we just skirt the hallway sides a phantom and a fly follow the lines and wonder why there's no connection" it makes for a point where the effort is tiring, and the push continues. the tone, and the video made, both make me feel this song is more of a religious battle, such as a crusade. better yet, it could be a war against religion. |
|
| The Shins – Caring Is Creepy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"building nothing, laying bricks" "underneath the power lines seeking shade" i love how The Shins are so metaphorical. i'll never understand how this sound comes out of james mercer's mouth. |
|
| The Shins – A Comet Appears Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
well, i have to give the shins major props for using the word UBER in a song. "burnt sage and a forest of bygones" while i have no sentimental connection to the quote, it triggers some kind of nostalgic memory. it makes for a great closing track on the newest album. |
