In the live version of the song i clearly herd "All the things you think you want" instead of as in the album version "There's nothing you believe you want " think the song is about how these happyfolk is dragged into our greedy world, how they until now have been protected aginst greed, overusage and excess.. from what i understand litany is a form of prayer so that makes "litany of excess" som kind of prayer of excess.. meaning we are worshipers of overusage there has been a lot of talking about the jewels are oil, and i think it could be.. "fueling the chaos of their own world" and "the place where all good souls come to rest" got me thinnking more about it. oil is fueling not only cars but wars.. and a place where all souls come to rest could in other words be a graveyard.. and when plants and animals decompose after a long long time, they could become oil.. and something i just realized.. both jewels and oil are made of coal.. so it can simply be jewels but it can also be oil, if these clues really are clues.. |
