| The second one to comment on the entire Kingmaker page..?! Better late than never, anyway. This song absolutely ROCKS. I think as well as the music scene in general, this song is kind of taking the piss out of Suede who once supported them in the early '90s and far preferred by NME, with the posey 'silken blouse' bit. But lyrically this song rips a second hole in so much... | |

| This also song sounds like its about coming out of the closet, leaving your grieving family or that of one you've broken up... One of my favourite songs ever. | |

The lyrics as I hear 'em are: My beautiful boy Has a bare arse ... On my knees He's an animal! ... I wear a nice blue hat Just to keep with the swing of things And we go TO CHURCH! GO TO CHURCH! Awesome song! One of my favourite ever... |

| This song is about Quentin Crisp, yeah? (Look him up) He worked as a rentboy/prostitute back in the day, so maybe 'she' is referring to him? The videos' got John Hurt in semi-drag, as he played Quentin in the Naked Civil Servant. | |

| Suede – This Hollywood Life Lyrics | 18 years ago |

To me it sounds like a parable about the exloitative lot of women in music or on the screen (Marylin et al, like in their song 'Heroin') but with an analogy to classical women like Elizabeth I or Meryl Streep in Dangerous Liasons: no matter what they do, they can't win in a man's world... The first line is a man's attitude to them; the bit about sacking the factory line might mean breaking the mould, smashing formulaic stereotypes; 'resuce me frm this Hollywood life' sounds like a sarcastic retort - what need a man beside her, when a woman can be that successful? 'The death of a king/blowjob/butchery' bit could be that she can win against men awesomely, she can butcher them, but all that means to men, ie the world, is a quick bit of cheap gratification - they don't really care for more than five minutes (how sad). The Hollywood life ain't easy... So the final line is a challenge: come on then, take everything I've got... This song is f*ckin mighty. It never seemed rated that highly - CHANGE THAT, PEOPLE! |

| I've just been watching the video for this on YouTube. Did Brett Anderson ever read V For Vendetta before he wrote this? Does seem like it. | |

No-one's commented?! This song is amazing! But anyway, I think this is similar to Electricity, about the truth and innocence of casual bisex and 'sexuality; big black dog is a ref. to Animal Nitrate (video), so despite bad experience (or because of it) she ignores surface pretensions - tough kids - and skins them all: looks beneath the surface and/or gives them her skin, so to speak. And 'she' could mean female or male. I think thats the idea, anyway. |

^ A bed with tons of burlesque dancers in it is indeed a good one. And this song is indeed awesome, with a capital awe. |
