I don't think it's solely about Medications. As another commenter pointed out, some of the lyrics point more towards the music industry. Otherwise those lyrics don't make much sense if it's solely about medicine.
However, why couldn't it be about the music industry and drugs? As in illegal drugs. How many famous singers and band-mates do we here about that are on drugs or have overdosed on drugs? Also, illegal drugs used to be considered "medicine". Maybe it's about a band who are quitting drugs as well. |

This song strikes me as being about poverty. Just the whole mention of debt and "wild homes" (possibly meaning homeless?) makes me think of living in poverty. |
