| Matthew Good – Us Remains Impossible Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Star-cross'd lovers? the way that the music peters down after the first chorus emphasizes how big a deal the loss and the impossibility is, and that life still continues in it's ordinary way. |

| Matthew Good – Vancouver National Anthem Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I believe this is a first-tale account of more than just what it's like to live in Vancouver, but what it is to be homeless in Vancouver. Canada seems to have a lot of political hipocrisy in that we criticize other countries to death about poverty and lack of health care, etc. but our problems with the amount homeless Canadians are huge, and Vancouver, as far as I know, is one of the worst if not the worst. The UN declared that Homelessness should be a National issuu, calling our little homeless "problem" a big issue. That was a few years ago, Canada has done relatively nothing. A new legislation forcing the homeless in Vancouver city has recently been put up for approval- stating that in extreme weather cases this winter, the homeless can be put inside forcibly. (a fucking clear Canadian Charter of Rights Violation, that has only seemed to matter now, as the 2010 olympics are ready to roll in) ANYWAY. Matthew Good does his homework, He cares about Canadian politics, as any Canadian should. It's seriously fucking touching knowing that he's writing about this. Here are the lyrics that give the homelessness crisis away, in my opinion: Out of the alleys On needle-strewn fields (There is a very large heroin addiction problem in Vancouver, undoubtedly among the homeless. The goverment approved Canada's first safe-needle centre, with much controversy, here. I am not sure if its even still open) Around here love's a gangster (prostitution, maybe. Or maybe even just that love is hard) And charity's the brute (If you are homeless, You might often rely on Charities, but there are rules) Where God deals on Sundays (The Mission/Christian organization that dole hot dinners out on Sundays) It's 5 blocks of universe (Referring maybe to 5 blocks in particular?) And aliens for reach Like invisible ghettos (Nobody pays attention to the homeless here) Of privledge and grief And we end up between them We all live downtown (Homeless populations don't stand much chance of surviving unless downtown) Paying blood, no parking (The communities are violent and hard. The no parking line is fantastic in it's irony. ) Sleep on the ground (duh) Step over ourselves (Maybe, implying that one must step over others to get ahead) That's what I think. I think its a great song. wow. |

what about the lines 'at least I won't be alone tonight' ? I think he wants to find someone who really cares, and he has found them, but he's just in the relationship so he's not alone, for the 'passion, not love'. and so he feels like he's guilty for leading her on The lover feels it's love, he doesn't. but he doesn't care. ...mayybe |

Does anyone else love how it says 'the ocean's much like you' instead of 'you're much like the ocean' wich is the more so-called logical way to say it, considering the ocean is this promordial.. thing and we are just, people? It makes me happy. anywayyyyyy... |

| yeah, but sacrifices? angels? i mean, he more than likely means something different; but at the very least the metaphors are quite often religious. | |

I think it's about jesus. JESUS. HIM. (verse 1) He spoke to many men, and since he was a part of god (says christianity) he would have known angels. (verse 2) Jesus also prophesized. and gave to the poor and helped any man he could, encouraging to do the same for others. (verse 4) Jesus never wanted to prove his 'godliness' or power by doing stupid tricks like moving mountains or well, being magical. (verse 6) He gave his body 'to the flame' (or on a cross, or sacrificed, whatever in general) and never once denied god's name- the reason Jesus was killed in the first place NOW what about the not knowing about love? Because if our main character is Jesus, he should know a lot about love, no? NO. There is a verse, and I don't know it well, where once Jesus is on the cross, he starts to doubt everything he beleived in, love and god. He's afraid he's made a big mistake and doesn't know anything at all. That, I think is where this song comes from. Mannnn, I love it though |

| Stars – Don't Be Afraid to Sing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"And too afraid, you're too afraid to fall for anything And too afraid, much too afraid to sing" I don't think sing= love guaranteed. it's kinda like, maybe this person has always wanted to "sing" (so sing is really like a goal) but couldn't risk it. And because they're too afraid to fall, and too afraid to love and get encouragement and building block and be in love, they'll never have the power to 'sing' they're not ready to move on, maybe they will be someday but not now. and that's why they're together. |

| Rilo Kiley – Silver Lining Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I took this completely different than anyone else, wich probably means I'm wrong, but oh well. I think it's about a relationship with someone else, who loves you more thank you can love them back. so you're their silver lining, "hurray hurray"- is kinda like saying "that's great but..." and then when she felt wicked when she 'willed our love to die' she felt bad because she completely broke his heart, out of the blue. the "now I'm gold" is as if, at the time of the relationship she was amazing and his silver lining, and now that she's gone she's his gold, something he's having trouble getting over, forever a prize of some sort in his memory. |

| AFI – Miss Murder Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| oh... and the 'make beauty stay if i take my life'could be about hitlers suicide in the end because he couldnt bare to see himself loose the war | |
| AFI – Miss Murder Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
ok i think miss murder is about hitler. because he had a dream, and it fell apart- but it was all about beauty... and he abandoned his 'people'and left them all alone in the end all e wanted was the 'golden ring'and i think that was the aryenne race i dont mean afi supports hitler, he was a horrible, horrible person. but i think this song is about him- like how all the people raised their fists and stuff and the suit and yep. |

| Alexisonfire – Rough Hands Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
this is about a couple who were together for a long time. made sacrifices, the man worked hard and loved her, he worked hard for her. the woman would always complain, his hands were rough, he was always tired and didnt want her.. then the line One day my hands were too soft One day she said, "I'm tired" he couldn't win with her. it was too late, she was going to continue with her complaining about him because its HIM that is the problem, not really his hands. she just wasnt in love One day her clothes were on my floor One day empty bottles he caught her cheating. he grew depressed and started to get caught up in alcoholism.. the line here: It doesn't matter how rough these hands get It doesn't matter because I'm not her man sums up what i think this song means. Whatever he does or is doesnt matter to her cause she doesnt love him, she's in love with someone else, probably someone she's been having an affair with. |

| The Cure – Piggy in the Mirror Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Oh my lord this song has obvious links to the book 'the lord o'f the flies' 'piggy' is one of the main characters who is smarter and more mature than all the other kids on the island, but he is pushed aside and ignored because he's kinda fat and not physically attractive. so the mirror could be a way to potray how piggy looks is holding him back. "Sixteen white legs and a row of teeth They watch you in secrecy" >>> in the book they mention the beast hiding, always watching the children and they're always afraid of him, it also mentions its teeth. "I'm trapped in my face and I'm changing Too much" >>> proving again that piggy's appearance is trapping him "The stain reveals my real intention I'm the waiting beast I'm the twisted nerve" >>> in the story a boy named simon realizes that there is no real beast on the island to be afraid of, and that the beast lived inside of him, and all the other children, because of the bad that he himself (and humans in general) could do... he realizes this when most of the other boys are out hunting and killing chanting 'hunt the pig, slit its throat, spill the blood', or something along those lines its an interesting book to read about human nature. this might not be their intention at all in the song. but it makes perfect sense if you know the themes in the story well. |
