My take on the song is that there is someone he loves deeply, but at this point in his life, he is not ready to be with her. He is on the cusp of greatness and he can feel it, but he is not there yet, and he feels he is not yet worthy of being with this person. So he asks her to wait until he gets his bearings and becomes the man that he believes he can become. All in all, such a great song. |

The song has a lot of religious imagery, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's about religion. It's possible it's actually about love. "If it's just the same dear, why have you left before "forever" yet returned again?" This sounds like a lover who has promised to be with him "forever", left/betrayed him, and has come back to be together again. "Remnants of a past here pass like light through dust as memories fall fleeting like pain." This sounds as if he is remembering the good times in the past which give him hope despite the cloudiness of his doubt. But the memory of the betrayal also pains him? |

Came upon the band much like hea928 and fell in love as well. I have to say it took a while for any of the songs on the album beyond lazy eye to grow on me, but absolutely LOVE most of them now. Rusted Wheel is my second fave right now. When the drums kick in halfway through the song gets amazing. I agree with hea928's interpretation. I will go further to note that the "size of the bugs" in winter and "lump in my throat" in summer are both negative connotations saying that the singer tells the season by the type of affliction that presents itself. Going to the concert Friday where they perform with Snow Patrol and OK Go. Don't care too much about either of those but absolutely can't wait to see SSPU. |
