I think it's about having an epiphany of sorts: deciphering all the confusion and finally understanding that "home is where I am," essentially learning to be content. |

To me, it sounds like a last plea before a breakup. The guy lied about something big, and now he's getting dumped. |

This song's pretty self-explanatory. I think it's about letting go of everything that you keep bottled up inside you, in this case physical abuse. |

What a pretty song...I love the line: "Scratched your farewell couplet in my window frost." Few people do vivid imagery like the Pernice Brothers.
And I kinda agree with mmkg_28...to me, it's about a guy trying to move on after a very painful breakup. |

I kinda get the feeling that Mr. Bellamy's on a drug trip or something...like he's "high" and he's not coming down. |

I think it's a relationship--one gone sour. They're together, but just barely. The girl expects too much from him--a common Shins theme, when you consider songs like "Gone for Good"--, and the guy's just about ready to give up. |

Or that he turns a deaf ear to the girl in a more literal sense. I really like skya's idea, too. It can have more than one meaning. |

I'm kinda thinking that this song is about an abusive relationship. It explains the 'you're so ferocious' bit, at least. And every time, the guy claims that he's a changed man, he needs her, he loves her, etc. But when something goes wrong, he's ferocious again.
Maybe? |

I agree. I think it's about a prostitute that falls in love with one of her customers that sees her as nothing more than...well, a prostitute. |

| Ivy – Kite Lyrics

And also, I've decided this song's political. Politicians give us empty promises.
The second part is a young soldier speaking to her parents, and the kite represents her life. The soldier didn't realize exactly what she was getting into, and now she regrets it. "Maybe I'll get out of here one day."
Sad. |

I have a correction...in the second line, I'm pretty sure that it's "Delicious with claws." |

I'm still puzzling over this song, but I do believe it was intended to be political. Like the rhythm OF souls...how there's souls dropping everywhere, and politicians basically have no souls. There are a lot of war references."...no accidents/not in the name of democracy." Hm. |

| The National – Apartment Story Lyrics

To me, this song seemed incredibly sarcastic. It's about a couple that lives in a sort of dream-state, shrinking away from the world, "rosy minded fuzz" seems to be a reference to viewing the world through rose-colored glasses. The end is the most positively bitter; turning a deaf ear to complaints and being satisfied with materialism and never leaving your 'safety zone.' |

Whenever I hear this song, I think of someone becoming a famous model and forgetting their real friends. "Unmagnificent lives of adults" is just a reference to how though the model guy might seem bad, everyone's basically a jerk at heart. There's too many references to models to shake the notion; "don't mind seeing yourself in a picture," "showered and blue blazered"...yeah. Anyone else thing so? |

I think this song just discusses how inevitable death is. The last bit, I think, is a dismissive way of describing how most people live their lives, half-asleep. |

I think, over all, this song's about a guy telling a girl not to be a victim anymore, and become more proactive. And he's been telling this girl this for a long time, but this is the final straw. He's sick of seeing her wither away and get hurt ("The lantern dim/starved of oxygen"), so he's begging her to finally just get out there and take a chance. |

I think this song's about a guy right after a big fight or breakup, and he's telling the girl to leave some other loser and come back to him. |

Niltse is right.
The song's just about being in love and running off together and being together really peacefully and away from the world.
It's pretty. |
