Secondhand Serenade – Fall For You Lyrics 17 years ago
I think it's a sweet, but depressing song. And I love it. They had a perfect relationship, cause she is the perfect girl for him. But time takes it's course and pretty soon they've been together for so long that it's become a habit. The simple but amazing things in the beginning are no longer enough and the littlest things are setting them off into a fight. But tonight is peaceful. Not only are they not fighting, but their remembering why they're in love to begin with. I love it cause it's a true story a hundred times over, with myself and so many of my friends. Over time it's easy to forget why you're with the person you're with, cause they're always there.

Fall Out Boy – Lake Effect Kid Lyrics 17 years ago
Lake Effect refers to a lot of things, not just snow or Chicago. Anyone who lives by a large lake would know this. Yes, Navy Pier has fireworks off the lake front, but it also impacts the weather, causing more snow and rain as you get closer to the lake. The temperatures are also effected, making it both colder and warmer, depending on the season. There's a reason why people in Chicago joke about it being 4 seasons in 1 day. Later on they reference skyline, which is classic of Chicago, and also something that on a clear night you could probably see traces of from Wilmette.

And I agree with the idea that whenever they come home they're just "the lake effect kids" but I don't see that as a negative thing. Heaven could be LA and Earth is Chicago, LA is full of fake blonds, or just plain fake people, and Chicago is their grasp with reality. When they come back to Chicago it's them being the lake effect kids, not FOB (or the attention whored Pete Wentz).

Fall Out Boy – 20 Dollar Nose Bleed Lyrics 17 years ago
"It feels like 14 carats but no clarity"

I agree with the idea of Bush getting all of these expensive things: secret service, fancy house, media attention and such, but the way he talks makes you stop and say "wtf?" more often than not. I also think it's a reference to war, but more like the diamond trading wars that go on in Africa. It's items that cost us a lot of money to buy but there's no actual need for it and the people who are buying these things aren't all that aware of what's going on outside of the walking into a jewelry store portion of the story.

"actually, it's the taxidermy of you and me"

For some reason I first heard that and though of the saying "beating a dead horse." "it's not you, it's me" is a time honored classic for break up reasons. He's saying "it's not you, it's me...wait, it's more of the fact we're now the dead horse..." or box of stuff you hid in the back of the closet until you're at the point after a break up where it's ok for you to bring it out. He's tired of the relationship because it's not going anywhere but around in a circle of badness. He's trying to get to the point where the relationship is just the items of the relationship but she's still go some ties to him and he can't quite get grounded in the peaceful "over it" state yet. If you keep up with the Bush/war references it's the breakup of the Bush era but knowing Bush will always be "stuffed" in the history books as a reminder. And the the books are the balloon strings, always linking us to this point in time even if we really wish we could forget, or do it all over again but differently.

And someone suggested that Pete (and Patrick cause they both write the songs now) doesn't want to do this (writing, FOB, media hype, whatever) anymore. I think it's more of that he's grown up as a person. He has the audience and knowledge to say something so he's going to say something with meaning. It's kinda like he started writing a children's book, which isn't the most complex thing in the world, and has moved on to writing a classic. Not everyone can write a book that will be talked about in English classes for decades to come, it takes practice and creativity in addition to having something to say.

Panic! at the Disco – Northern Downpour Lyrics 17 years ago
If all our life is but a dream
Fantastic posing greed
Then we should feed our jewelry to the sea
For diamonds do appear to be
Just like broken glass to me:
We're all driven by desires and we're currently living in a society that lives outside of their means. I have a few friends who have joked about turning down marriage because the size of the ring isn't big enough (joking, but kinda true), and he's saying that all of the desires, material things, are just stuff to him. Jewelry is nothing more than shiny, broken glass to him. These material things aren't nearly as important to him as spending time with her is, it's a priceless thing that he would give up all his "jewelry" (or equally valuable items) away in order to have this time with her because their value is so much less.

And then she said she cant believe
Genius only comes along in storms of fabled foreign tongues
Tripping eyes and flooded lungs
Northern downpour sends its love:
But all he has to give is fabled, foreign tongues that we need to read into. My first idea was that no one is going to tell us that we're a materialistic society and have us go "yeah...we are" and then change. Just like we're not going to an overweight person they look fat in those jeans, that the hair cut wasn't the best idea, or any other topic we bite our tongue about. We sugarcoat things to come off sounding nicer and sparing feelings. And when we do "speak our mind" about something, it's in such a way that you don't know it's really a back-handed compliment until you really stop to think about it, and that point the storm has past. You wont go up to the person 2 hours later and pick a fight with them because of the way that actually insulted your hair cut, you'll get over it and move on. My second way of thinking of it is that she doesn't believe him when he tells her that he'd give up all of the material things in order to spend time with her. It seems impossible for her to believe that someone can care about her that way, so he has to find complex ways to tell her the simple things. And when she does finally figure out that he's said "I love you" in a complex form, it causes the storm of misunderstanding, northern downpour is her saying it's impossible for him to love someone like her.

Hey moon, please forget to fall down
Hey moon, don’t you go down:
The ending of the most amazing day ever. Or even just a day, not good, not bad, but one you'll always remember. No matter what happens, you have to close your eyes and you know that tomorrow isn't going to be nearly as good. You have no idea on what's ahead, but you know there's no stopping it from coming and he's pleading with the moon to stay up so that he can continue in this moment, where he knows exactly what to expect. Or he's perfectly happy with things the way they are and with each passing second, it becomes more likely that this will change.

Sugarcane in the easy morning
Weathervanes my one and lonely :
if you look sugarcane as fuel, food, energy, the start of the day, it means that the sun has gone down and it's not easy for him because he needs to look towards the weathervanes to see what direction the latest storm went to. He can't keep up with her, the he can't get her out of his head and she is running 10 steps ahead of him and he's trying his best to keep up. He was able to get to a good place, almost reach her, connect with her, but the moon went down and he was forced to start over and now he has to start from the beginning because she got ahead of him while he was asleep.

The ink is running toward the page
It’s chasing off the days
Look back at both feet and that winding knee
I missed your skin when you were east
You clicked your heels and wished for me:
He's writing down everything he knows in hopes that it will speed things up for the next time the storm comes through. the storm could be her, life getting in the way of them being together (like a tour taking him away from her), or even mood swings where he doesn't know what she's going to be like from one minute to the next. Either way, they aren't together and all he wants to do is be able to touch her, hug her, give her that comfort that they both might need. Sometimes the idea of "no place like home" can be found in a much needed hug, maybe she's clicking her heels and wishing he had his arms around her. maybe he knows that exactly what she needs but she's not letting him catch up to her so that this can happen.

Through playful lips made of yarn
That fragile Capricorn
Unravelled words like moths upon old scarves
I know the world’s a broken bone
But melt your headaches call it home:
My guess for the mentioning of Capricorn is kind of tongue and cheek. Capricorns are considered to be wise, practical, responsible people (wikipedia), but playful lips made of yarn make me think she's more a free spirit. I'd go so far as to say Manic or Bi-Polar, if she's the northern downpour, explaining why he doesn't know what's going on with her from one minute to the next. It would also suggest that she's the broken bone and has to melt away until she can create a balance in her life. It could also be that she's so responsible that the world around her is falling apart, causing the storm, and he's trying his best to make everything alright around her. It's getting to the point where he can only do so much and she needs to accept that this is how the world's going to be.

Hey moon, please forget to fall down
Hey moon, don’t you go down

Sugarcane in the easy morning
Weathervanes my one and lonely

Sugarcane in the easy morning
Weathervanes my one and lonely

Sugarcane in the easy morning
Weathervanes my one and lonely

Sugarcane in the easy morning (Hey moon, please forget to fall down)
Weathervanes my one and lonely (Hey moon, don’t you go down)

Sugarcane in the easy morning (You are at the top of my lungs)
Weathervanes my one and lonely (Drawn to the ones who never yawn)

Sugarcane in the easy morning (Hey moon, please forget to fall down)
Weathervanes my one and lonely (Hey moon, don’t you go down)

Hey moon, please forget to fall down
Hey moon, don't you go down
You are at the top of my lungs
Drawn to the ones who never yawn:
He's screaming at the top of his lungs to keep this moment. She's not slowing down but he's finally caught up to her. If the moon goes down, he'll have to start over and knows she'll be 10 steps ahead of him again.

The Spill Canvas – This Is For Keeps Lyrics 17 years ago
So I saw The Spill Canvas at an acoustic show over the summer in Chicago and they flat out said this was based on Twilight. He wrote the song shortly after reading the book. It's Edward and Bella as Bella is being turned into a vampire. Seeing as the whole saga hadn't been written at the time he wrote the song, I'm assuming he made his own version of how she changes.

Sean Kingston – Beautiful Girls Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm sorry you think I'm taking this to literal, and no I'm not a fan of Hilary. My probably with the song (and Candy Shop or 97% of the songs on the radio) is that they're a horrible example for people to look up to. Music videos are also one of the worst things ever because they have women where almost nothing dancing around this guy who's saying he's the best damn thing on the planet and you need to bow down to him because of it. I don't respect that this song so stupid. Whether you look into the lyrics or not (which was actually the theory behind this website).

Sean Kingston – Beautiful Girls Lyrics 18 years ago
First off, Sandman9R: "can you believe that stupid MTV censors the word "suicidal?" What a bunch of homosexuals"

I am surprised by the lack of comments too, as well as how many people love this song. He's singing about killing himself because it didn't work out with a girl because she's to pretty for him and everyone around him said it wouldn't last. How is that catchy? Isn't it sad? How is that not disrespectful to the millions of people each year who have a family member or friend kill themselves because they honestly feel they have nothing to live for?

I do not think this is a good song and I am shocked that MTV and radio plays it so often.

Fall Out Boy – Bang the Doldrums Lyrics 18 years ago
I wrote goodbye now in lipstick in your arm when you passed out, I couldn't bring myself to call except to call it quits:
He couldn't call it quits in a lasting form so he uses lipstick to leave his mark. Lipstick can wash off an arm in seconds where a letter, email, etc. can be saved forever, making it more valid and long lasting. At the same time he couldn't just call her to have a conversation, it had to be to end it, which he didn't want to do. The relationship isn't strong enough to last with long distance pressures, probably topped off with Pete's mood swings. Not being there is driving him crazy and neither can last in this kind of relationship. Also, she passed out, possibly from drinking to much, making her a partier and drama, something he doesn't need any more of in his life.

Ex-friends because best friends can't be lovers, there needs to be a line. You can't tell the person you're sleeping with every detail of your life. It's not keeping secrets, it's keeping mystery and sanity. Knowing every detail can create problems, ex: "Oh I talked to Mark today and he said the sweetest thing..." "Who the fuck is Mark and why are you talking to this guy..."

You're all wrong, Are we wrong?
It is me or us? Probably from hearing that she's bad news, maybe he hers something about her spending time with my fictional Mark and it makes him doubt her commitment to this "relationship" and he wants to blame her. At the same time he's wondering if they would have had a chance to begin with because they might just be wrong for each other.

The city says: Come Hell or high water when I'm feeling hot and wet, I can't commit to anything, be it hearts or hospitals.
I'm assuming he's talking about the difference between big cities like Chicago, LA, and NYC, where he spends a great deal of time. It's fast pace with high expectations and a lot of judgment but she doesn't buy into it. He goes on to compare hell with sexuality and those expectations are thrown out when he's horny because he knows he can always count on her for those needs, even when they're racing through the city in the back of a yellow-checkered car. Also, he still can't commit to her, this relationship. Heart or hospital is implying that love is driving him crazy or love makes people do crazy things. But because he can't even commit to a hospital (or therapy) he's going to be on the fence forever, without ever really working this relationship out.

The tombstone stuff is the same as what others have been saying, the relationship was doomed from the start. As far as I can tell, they aren't even in a true relationship, it's friends with benefits but he wants more, just doesn't know how to go about doing that, and she's unwilling to help him with that.

And I cast a spell over the West to make you think of me, The same way I think of you, This is a love song in my own way, Happily ever after, below the waist.
He's casting a spell over the west, Hollywood, becoming famous and having millions of people adore him because he thinks that will get her attention. He wants her to love him as much as his fans do because that's how he feels about her, but like the city's expectations, she doesn't buy into it. He could write a million songs about her and it still wont impress her. THis is his love song and it doesn't have a happy ending because the relationship doesn't have a happy ending, there is no walking into the sunset. But they'll keep having commitment free sex because he ended the relationship with lipstick on her arm and once she washes it off, it's like it never happened and they start the cycle over again.

Or at least that's my opinion.

Fall Out Boy – The (After) Life of the Party Lyrics 19 years ago
I have to agree with boomxboomx on a lot of it. I took the song as 'on the outside looking in.' He might be in the room, he might get invited to the party, but that doesn't make him accepted and he stuck watching from the wall as the girl he loves is "working" the room, i.e. having fun and fitting in.
