| Propagandhi – Duplicate Keys Icaro (An Interim Report) Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
At a concert last week Chris introduced the song by saying something along the lines of - we (current western society) measure our wealth by our jobs our homes our possessions but some cultures (I think the aboriginal cultures of Canada) measured wealth by the legacy left behind for future generations. In philosophy its calls the Good Ancestor Principle. In response to kettles86 “Icaro is a shamanic medicine song” I think the song is talking about us being the shamans so to speak and healing the Earth through basically being good to one another being and leaving a better world for our ancestors |

| NOFX – Creeping Out Sara Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Ok so the lyrics are fairly self explanatory, it is a true story where Fat Mike was drunk and hanging out backstage at a festival and was talking to Tegan Quin of the Canadian duo Tegan & Sara and yes he creeped her out It turns out that it was Tegan and not Sara that he creeped out. Because Fat Mike honestly didn't know weather he was creeping out Sara or Tegan they released two versions of the song. Creeping Out Sara was released on NOFX's album Coaster however the vinyl release titled Frisbee contained the song Creeping Out Tegan. Creeping Out Sara was released as the single The song caused a bit of a stir but from fans of T&S but as Fat Mike explained in interviews - he was not being mean to them - he's the one who looks like a creep in the end. Tegan responded to the song on twitter saying "nofx + t/s = lots of email/texts/blogs/phone calls. i think punk in drublic is a great record. we r lesbians. sara was creeped. i AM cooler." The song is also not anti-gay in anyway - NOFX are very supportive of the GLBT scene and as Fat Mike says thay are a very gay positive band Finally: Johnny Samson is the former bass player for Propagandhi and now singer & guitarist for The Weakerthans "Skiba" is Matt Skiba - lead singer and guiratist of Alkaline Trio |

| NOFX – Kill Rock Stars Lyrics | 19 years ago |

The line "I wish I could have seen Courtney demonstrate some real misogyny" refers to a fight between Kathleen Hannah and Courtney Love which happened backstage during the Lollapalooza tour on 4 July 1995. Apparently Kathleen remarked that Frances Bean (Kurt Cobain and Courtney’s child) was in another room with an I.V referring to the fact that Courtney was known for having taken several dangerous narcotics while pregnant. Courtney retaliated by flicking a lit cigarette at Kathleen, pelting here with candy and punching her in the face. Days later Courtney referred to Kathleen as "Ratface" in an AOL message board. Kathleen pressed charges and Courtney plead guilty to assault. From what I know some of the tension between Fat Mike and Kathleen arose when NOFX and Bikini Kill shared the bill at a festival in Hawaii where Fat Mike dedicated the song "Liza and Louise" to Bikini Kill (Liza and Louise being a song about a comical lesbian romance and Bikini Kill being a very open feminist band) All that aside “Kill Rock Starts” and “Deceptacon” was just an school feud between bands nothing more. Ultimately Fat Mike is not a sexist, in fact he started the record label Pink and Black Records purely for female artists. And while Kathleen Hannah is a prominent feminist she does not hate men. |
