I've always skipped this song before, when listening to the cd, but after some months it just felt like I didn't even give the song a "fair chance" (because then I had never listened to the whole song). I don't listen to the song that much now either (but I definitly listen to it more), nothing about the lyrics, but it just doesn't get stuck as a "omg this is a really good song" in my head. But I still love it, and I really like the lyrics. Most of my friends just tells me that Amanda Palmer just writes about dildo's, dolls and masturbation, which is not true as this song clearly (just as Coin-operated boy) is about loneliness. It feels kinda obvious (at least to me), especially when reading the lyrics and listening to the song. Amanda puts really much emotions into both the singing, the lyrics and the piano playing. "i am too busy to have friends a lover would just complicate my plans so i will never look for love again i'm taking matters into my own hands" I think that's about she not having friends nor a partner (because she in some way lost the one's she had), which she really wants and needs, but as she hasn't got it, she keeps telling herself that she's just to busy to have friends, and a partner would just be in the way of the perfect life she has imagined for herself. A perfect life which she knows she'll never get, unless she gets some friends and maybe a partner. But she doesn't want to, because she's afraid of maybe losing them again and then just feel more worse than she already does. So she takes the matters into her own hands, thinking maybe her last relationship only was about sex, and if it was then why would she need a lover if all her relationships are about only sex. Because she can masturbate, which is like having sex, herself. She doesn't need anyone to be happy. Which she in fact really does. Just what I think those lines mean, maybe it sounds crappy I don't know... And excuse all the possible grammar mistakes and just not understandable sentence's, I'm from Sweden. |
