This has nothing to do with Christianity. I don't know what you're talking about. It's about, no matter how hard you try, someone always thinks you're not good enough-- they can't see the good things, the bright things in those they constantly criticize. Particularly in this song, it can be related at parts to family, as in "I try the best I can, but it seems that I'm not the perfect son." It's also asking when will other people let you go and just let you be who you are, without all those "should-be"s. "but I ask you once again, when does my life become my own?" |

this is what i think, its subject to argument. its showing a cycle-- the singer of the song was given drugs or something when he was younger, and in return wound up giving some other kid drugs; the song is the story of that boy's life, when he eventually winds up selling another little boy drugs. |

I can't believe there's no comments on this song! While it's not my favorite on the album, it has a fast pace and equally quick lyrics. The repitition and such is really cool, creating an interesting effect. My favorite part is: "Making progress like that of a dead man." |

all of norma jean's lyrics are metaphorical and symbolic and just beautiful. i think its about the slander of a good reputation and betrayal. The title, "A Small Spark vs. A Great Forest" could represent how in the song the small spark kills all the forest, even though it was so tiny. I feel its about how rumors and secrets spread like wildfire. So well written! |

The lyrics are sheer poetry and the song only emphasizes the total beauty and truth in them. This song can mean many different things to me at different times and situations in my life, so I couldn't tell you exactly how'd I interpret it at any certain time. R.I.P. My interpretation (it's iffy and this song could mean different things to me at different times). Don't be so scared we will not lead you on Like you've been doing for weeks. I'm not sure how to interpret this... it may be that she was leading people on, or is afraid to be lead on. Your selfish, and I'm sorry Oh, how I've wanted to scream this... When I'm gone you'll be going nowhere fast, nowhere fast, nowhere fast. It's like she's selfish and using him and he's tired of totally supporting her. Would you believe me if I said I didn't need you? Cause I wouldn't believe you if you said the same to me, Near death, last breath, and barely hanging on. Would you believe me if I said I didn't need you? Because he probably doesn't, but she's so full of herself that she'd probably believe it. And the truth is, without him, she'd be nothing, and she needs him. Don't be so scared to take a second for reflecion, to take a leave of absence to see what your made of. So I'm "selfish" and you're "sorry". When I'm gone you'll be going nowhere fast. So who's "selfish" and who's "sorry"? I really like this part, because it sounds like she accused him of being selfish or something and now he's like I'M selfish?!?!! Overall, this song is one of my faves off their new album. |
