| They Might Be Giants – Whistling In The Dark Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I don't know about you, but I'm sick that catchy little phrase, "be yourself." What else can you possibly be? You are what you do, after all. So next time someone reminds me to "be what you're like, be like yourself," I'm going to tell them that I'd rather be whistling in the dark. Also, I'm hearing "wrong ideas" rather than "strong ideas". Wrong ideas that poison your mind. So don't listen to her. |

| They Might Be Giants – We Want A Rock Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Those lyrics look ever...wierder...written out like that. I think the song is about everyone wanting to have some kind of weapon to arm themselves with - that would be the rock on a string. Very useful for bashing people on the head. The next step is self defense, a prosthetic forehead in case someone tries to hit you with a rock. |

Lol. Some of these interpretations are pretty wacky. I always thought this was about the small, the big, and the person-sized, only triangle man throws me off. Why does he pick fights with everybody? Okay, so maybe he's a personification of mathematics, but that still doesn't give him the right. "who came up with person man?" - definitely a dig at the "Creator". On the other hand, /they/ made him up. |

| They Might Be Giants – I Palindrome I Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I think the 'snake head' metaphor is just explaining what the guy is doing - isn't a snake biting off its second head like a man killing his brother, or his mother? It's just as vicious and sly, and kinda self-serving too because you never know what that second head is going to try and do. "Mom leans down and says" - The impression I got was that the first line was meant to be an off-side, but she was right behind him and heard it. |

| Spoon – Metal Detektor Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I don't get 'desperation' out of this song but the sense of lightness when you're walking out of a horrible situation. Maybe it's about a relationship ending? | |
| Spoon – The Two Sides Of Monsieur Valentine Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Did anyone else look up "The Stranger Dance," feeling sure that it was a real play? "I think I'm going to write a film or play called The Stranger Dance and base it on this so it DOES exist." Darn, you beat me to it. Spoon said (in a comment about this album) that there was going to be a song on it about a play called The Stranger Dance. That pretty much sums it up. Maybe this is one of those songs with no meaning besides making you go, "huh?" |

In the acoustic version, you can hear clearly that it isn't "And let the hammer fall" but "And then the hammer falls" I have no clue what this song is about but I love it anyway. Gorgeous. |

| Sam Roberts – Bridge To Nowhere Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
My fav song by Sam Roberts. It's very catchy and just a cool song. I think this song is about running away from something unpleasant in your past. Running away from it blindly is following the "bridge to nowhere". And if you're headed to nowhere then you'd rather "come last". His friend is telling him to "put it in the past" and keep on living but he's trying to "slip out the back" and go elsewhere. When the song goes "She wants to know can I replace/This tired wool with satin lace", it's his friend telling him he should make a fresh start with a better look at life. And the line that goes "no guarantees that I won't get stoned" is about being aware that life isn't all roses, but you should keep going anyways. |
