i hear "what with all these leaves" too, not "leaks." The song has a very secular, somber tone to it. I don't see why he'd incorporate a waterfall, usually a symbol of infinity, especially right next to a dirtpile, a very blatant symbol of death.
Leaves makes lot more sense, especially in imagery. It's a symbol of transition, in this case, into death. The leaves are changing to their golden stage as summer dies, and "if it's still pretty what with all these leaves, we'll be fine" agrees with the acceptance of the devastatingly elegant truth that is death

i hear "leaves" too, not "leaks". the song has a very secular, earthly tone to it. i dont see why he'd be referring to waterfalls, a usual symbol of infinity, especially near a dirt pile, referring to death? "so pretty what with all these leaves" makes sense because summer is gone, the leaves are dying, but they're changing, making everything "so pretty." the acceptance of death being a devastating yet hauntingly beutiful truth mathches with autumn leaves so well. |

the only thing that i can make of this is how days can become a level nothing, until soemthing significant (fractured bones) replace the norm (faint days). the events symbolized by the symphony, and whatever was in the envelope was a misfortune |
